Unsung iPad 2 feature: New SIM ejector tool

By now we all know about the iPad 2's A5 processor, its redesigned case, its front and rear-facing cameras. Here's a feature I haven't seen anyone mention yet: the iPad 2 has a new SIM ejector tool. You can see the new tool on the right side of this photo, compared with the original ejector tool on the left.

The new tool looks much less like a custom bit of forged (liquid?) metal and more like a heavily-modified paper clip. There's a small gap in the metal between the pokey bit at the end and the part you grasp, and overall the metal looks to have a much duller (some might even call it cheaper) finish.

It's a minuscule alteration that most people might never even notice, especially given that you might use this tool perhaps once or twice over the life of your device. It caught our eye, though, and it's another odd bit of trivia to add to the Apple lore -- though something tells me this won't be something Mactracker adds to its comprehensive database.

That gap makes it utter crap for use in the iPad 2's ejector hole. You have to approach the hole at an angle and the tolerance is extremely tight. It was quite hard to eject period. So the damn thing bends VERY easily. I'd have rather had the old tool.

Anyone who transfers their unlimited data plan to an iPad 2 with AT&T will have to deal with this because, contrary to what was reported before anyone had an iPad 2 in their hands, they DO have you swap the SIM cards and do a quick network reset. Their part took 1/3 of the time it took me to get the damn SIM ejected and swapped.

Personally, I found this information truly intriguing! I had been wondering if the iPad 2 would have a sim removal tool, since the iPhone 4 shipped sans removal tool. :(
Good to here that it will be encluded with the iPad 2. Thanks for the info chris!

Not sure why they are so many nay sayers about this post.

One thing that doesn't seem to have been mentioned much is that you can tether your iPad to your iPhone using Bluetooth as well as via WiFi.

I don't know about throughput, but it's more convenient to connect as you don't have to go into Settings/Personal Hotspot on your iPhone, then either wait for your iPad to automatically connect or initiate the connection on the iPad.

Instead, you can leave the iPhone in your pocket, and just go to Settings/General/Bluetooth on the iPad, then select your iPhone in the Devices list to make the connection [once you have paired the devices, which is CRAZY easy].

The only thing that isn't great is disconnecting. I would have hoped that selecting the device in the Bluetooth pane would result in a disconnection, but it doesn't, and you don't want to 'Forget' the connection, so I turn Bluetooth off, then on again to break the connection.

Listen, I'm an Apple fanboy, but this "article" is just embarrassing.

The reason you haven't seen anyone mention this change is because NO ONE CARES. If I were a fAndroid, I would seize upon posts like this to illustrate quite dramatically how certain fans of Apple products can indeed take their obsession to cult-like extremes.

Why don't you write a post on the different adhesives or tape used on the iPad box while you're breaking the big stories, Chris? This post plays like an Onion piece and April 1st is still a few weeks away.
