More iPhone clock problems reported
Apple continues to deal with problems with the clock on the iPhone -- this first cropped up back in November, when clocks were turned back an hour to standard time. Some issues were still popping up in January, and now this weekend, as clocks were turned forward for Daylight Savings time in the US, some users were still having issues of varying kinds, from clocks changing when they weren't supposed to, to alarms not going off when set up correctly. Some users are even reporting the time changing just fine, and then inexplicably switching back -- one of my friends had a problem like that with his first-generation AT&T iPhone last night.
Unfortunately, since most of the information on the issues is anecdotal, it's hard to pin down exactly what's happening, but it seems to be something going on between the phone's software and a connection to the local provider's time information. Most of the issues are being fixed by flipping Airport Mode on and off (to re-establish the cellular connection) or even just restarting the phone. Alternately, you could just set the time yourself manually, though having a phone that sets its own time is obviously a lot more convenient.
At any rate, it looks like Apple is continuing to deal with this ongoing issue. Do make sure to check your phone and get it right -- you wouldn't want to miss Pi Day today, after all.

Both my iPad and iPhone are showing the time of 12:04PM when it is actually only 11:57AM - Now it's 12:05PM and BOTH display 12:12PM. Seven minutes off. What's the story? Anyone, Anyone, Bueller......

1 month after getting this the home button failed. A visit to london iStore got me an exchange. 3 days wait plus hassle.
5 months after getting this the time change fouled up syncronised appointment in outlook, changing every 'all-day' appointment to an appoinment of 24 hours spanning 2 days. I worked through putting them right after 'help' from apple and then it resync'd and did it again. After a few tries and denials of issue from Apple i downgraded itunes following advice from Orange and worked through ALL appointments to get back on track. weeks of denial , confusion and hassle
15 months after getting this the mute switch became erratic and still is. Useless.
17 months after getting this there appears to be a problem with the screen which causes random application and functional actions including cut, copy, paste of email addresses and content. Scary!!!
latest visit to iStore (solihull UK) I got the AMAZING offer of a replacement for £150!! when i said no way the "genius" became conspiratorial and suggested a battery replacement which would be effected by whole device replacement for £60. He didn't get it -Why would i pay for more of this hassle.
AND how well are Apple doing at concealing the inability to make a buton last 2 months, a switch last 15 months and a screen last 18 months! The reported battery usage figs cover up a massive engineering ineptitude with smoke and mirrors marketting.
My next iphone will be an HTC - Goodbye Apple
After the time shift I ended up having one alarm at 6.30 going off every day which is not in my list of alarms, but the one at 7.30 never goes. I have deleted it and set it up again, but I slept in again today. To Apple's defense, I am still on 4.1, iPhone 4. Time to upgrade?
March 16 2011 at 12:52 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyLast time, support advised us to delete all repeating alarms and re-enter them.
This time, I have NO ISSUES, on 3GS with latest iOS installed before.
All I can say is "just do it"!
Well - I had the pleasure of being wide awake at a hospital when the time shift occurred. Right around 2am my iPhone switched over to 4am - adding an extra hour to the shift. I was able to get the correct time by turning off the "Set Automatically" item. My best guess is that it wasn't just Apple - Bell Mobility likely borked something. By mid-day on Sunday things were ok and I could flip the "Set Automatically" back on.
March 15 2011 at 11:48 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMy dad and I had this problem on our iPhone 4's. I have the latest update installed on my phone. It was crazy the time went back and forth, sometime it was right then a few minutes later it changed back. Strange. But now it is fine. This is dumb, its 2011 and can't keep accurate time.
March 15 2011 at 11:15 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyPossibly unrelated, but I find when I visit my Dad my phone's time goes back and forth an hour while on his wireless. When I turn wireless off it's fine. I think it's something to do with his router time, rather than the phone. Perhaps if people with problems try turning off Wi-Fi you could test my suggestion. I myself have never had trouble with my alarm or DST on my iphone.

All Sunday the iPhone had the correct Daylight Saving Time, then Monday morning it had switched back to standard time and therefor the alarm when off an hour late.
March 15 2011 at 9:43 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMy old 3G, running 4.2.1, had absolutely no trouble with this time change (or any previous one). I cussed out the alarm (the built in Alarm Clock) right on time this morning .
