Phil Schiller says white iPhone coming this spring

Increasingly it seems that when you have a question about an Apple product, you should bypass the support forums and go directly to Apple's top brass. When asked about the white iPhone 4 on Twitter, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, Phil Schiller, responded with an enthusiastic "The white iPhone will be available this spring (and it is a beauty!)." This report confirms earlier rumors that point to an imminent launch of the elusive white handset.

Renewed interest in the white iPhone 4 most likely stems from the release of the white iPad 2. Customers have been waiting for the white handset since June 2010 when the latest generation Apple smartphone was announced at WWDC by Steve Jobs.

Much to the chagrin of customers, Apple has twice announced the handset was delayed due to an unidentified production issue. Rumored reports hinted the problem arose from paint quality issues that were recently fixed. Considering the source of this latest tidbit of information, it is a fairly safe bet we will see the white iPhone 4 soon. Anyone excited?

Don't care about the white iPhone at all!!

All I want is the iPhone 5 -- especially considering that my iPhone 4 is so much slower than the iPad 2.

Ok, seriously? All of you that keep making statements against those that buy iPhone 4s are most likely still on contract with your 3GS. White, black, gold, etc., if you want a great phone for your immediate needs, get an iPhone 4. I held out for so long on my old 3G and when I finally picked up my 32GB iPhone 4, I couldn't believe it took me as long as it did. Perfect, no, but neither will the next iteration. Gadgets get old and need to be updated/replaced. The iPhone 5 will be replaced by "6," and so on. Who cares, you will NEVER be able to future proof your electronic gadgets. Just get over it. Personally not digging the new mockup of the iPhone 5. Not nearly as sexy as the iPhone 4 - just looks like an older 3G/3GS with an AL back.

For those still holding out for the unicorn, buy it and enjoy. For all of you still rocking your sidekicks...well, I don't really have anything to say.

But Best Buy says they will future proof them.

Considering the whole situation, I think perhaps some sort of trade in option would be wise. I'd love a white one, but finally settled for black when it became apparent that white was never coming.

Apple last year released the iPhone 4 in the US in June, and staggered the release in the rest of the world for the rest of the year, so that in some places the 3GS remained the "current" model for the best part of six months after the iPhone 4 came out in the US. Plus, of course, the 3GS is still being sold everywhere as the low end model. If the same pattern holds this year, then there is still plenty of life left in the iPhone 4 and Apple might as well release the white one if they have fixed the problems they had with it, even if they do intend to release an iPhone 5 in June.

Am I the only one that remembers things? This happens all the time!

I'm as puzzled like everybody else on this one. Given the fact that I'm holding up for an iPhone 5 and suffering the slowness of my current 3G device, not to mention the history of Apple of only supporting the 2 most current generations, why would anyone buy a device, which life span is only another year?

When the iPhone 6 comes out next year, updates for 4G will probably stop happening, like they did for the 3G once 4G was out.

I don't really know what to think. I would not buy an iPhone 4G now. Neither black nor white!

The same type of people that bought iPhone 4s on verizon and/or left AT&T when we all expect the iPhone 5 in a few months. And the reveal time keeps getting closer. If you buy a white Iphone 4 in the spring because 3-4 months is too long to wait you deserve to be behind the times.

Definitely not excited. Maybe it's just me, but I have about the same enthusiasm level for white electronics as I do for white kitchen appliances. :o/

I mean I know I wouldn't waste a two year contract right now for the white iPhone I used to have the 3gs in white and wanted the iPhone 4 in white but ended up getting the black iPhone 4 bc I was tired of Apple pushing back the release, so I'll just wait and see what the newest iPhone they come out with before wasting the two year agreement.

I can't imagine that anyone that's been holding out for a white iPhone 4 will be particulary interested at this point. Unless Apple is going to keep the white option when the 4 drops down to $99 on contract, I don't really see the point.
