iPad 2 shipping times slip again -- this time to 4-5 weeks

Well, the news just keeps getting worse for those hoping to get their hands on the hottest device on the planet. A check of Apple's Online Store reveals that iPad 2 ship times for new orders have slipped to 4-5 weeks for most models. This is the third major push back in new order shipping times since the iPad went on sale on March 11.

Keep in mind, if you ordered the iPad 2 when the shipping time was 2-3 weeks, you should still receive your orders within that time (same goes for you 3-4 week people). The new shipping estimates are for those who place their iPad 2 orders today or later.

Demand for the iPad 2 has blown past almost every analyst's expectations. While Apple has not officially announced an exact number of iPad 2s sold, an Apple spokesperson did say that demand for the iPad 2 "has been amazing."

I got mine Tuesday morning. I ordered it on Friday at 3:55 AM EST, and the shipping info kept telling me it wouldn't be here until Thursday the 18th. I was quite surprised to see it arrive two days earlier than listed because when I went to bed the night before, FedEx said it had just arrived in Anchorage, AK from China, and then the next morning it was here in Michigan. That's pretty awesome shipping time!

I did get one at Best Buy on Friday, too. That wasn't mine, though. I delivered that one to my parents on Monday.

I also got my Smart Cover. I didn't like it, after all, so I sold it for what I paid for it. I could have listed it higher (people are selling the poly Smart Covers on Amazon for $50) but I just wanted to break even and get my money back.

Griffin's cover is pretty good, and covers both the front AND the back.

Aren't they basing this demand on lines at notable stores, and not sales? Does it make sense that with no pre-order, that lines would be longer?
