Apple reportedly yet to order iPhone 5 parts

If you're excited to buy the iPhone 5 this summer, you might want to relax a bit. Reports from China are saying that Apple hasn't even started securing the parts for a brand new version of the iPhone, which would mean that there's almost no way a new version could be released this year. Especially with all of the changes described in the recent rumors, Apple would need to start early to get all of the manufacturers working on making enough of a new iPhone to go around, and according to this source in China, those manufacturers haven't heard word one.

When you combine that with what we heard about WWDC lacking a hardware announcement, it's very likely that we won't even hear about a brand new version of the iPhone until this fall. That's fine -- the iPhone 4 is a very solid device, and it's still selling well. If Apple's cloud aspirations are realized this year, the company from Cupertino will have plenty to work on anyway.

again. "reportedly" being the operative word here, since the "story" is (as usual) a fabrication ou of whole cloth.

they haven't yet ordered parts for a phone that doesn't yet exist. weird.

still not sure why this stuff gets "reported."

Actually, I liked the iPhone product cycle. It was a refreshing change from the instant obsolescence model that seems to be more about specs than usability.

No, it's not fine. Maybe it's fine for all those folks that got to upgrade to iPhone 4, but not for those of us with a 2 year old iPhone 3GS. I would like to upgrade from my iPhone 3GS this year. I'm not going to upgrade to a year old iPhone 4. iWant an iPhone 5.

This will only drive more people to Android. A new phone every 12 to 18 months is a joke in the current mobile industry. HTC and the other Android handset manufacturers must be loving this news. Google is winning huge!

Please, the iPhone 4 is still considered the line with which all others are compared. And, after a year it still has no rivals. Review after review state that. Even Engadget when review the Verizon model stated that it is the gold standard. So, while specdroid manufacturers are running to out spec each other with crap Apple just sits knowing it simply has the best hardware. And then when someone comes close, Boom move the bar higher again. Fandroid only succeeded because carriers were able to have them in absence of the iPhone.

That, or we'll see the " iPhone 4S ". Same shell, but with the new dual core A5 chip and perhaps a ram boost. ?
