Some early-bird Verizon iPad 2 customers still waiting for shipments

Several Verizon customers who tried to order an iPad 2 directly through the telco giant are still awaiting their shipments. Considering the worldwide shortage of iPad 2 units, that might not sound like a big deal at first, ... until you hear the second half; many of these customers ordered the iPad 2 on its first day of availability and still haven't received one.

According to the rather lengthy forum thread linked above, these Verizon customers were promised either next-day or 2-3 day shipping for their iPad 2s, but more than two weeks after launch day, many of these orders still haven't shipped. This hasn't been the case for all launch-day Verizon customers, but it's become enough of a problem to gain widespread attention.

Citing sources within Verizon, CrunchGear claims the shipping window from Verizon was always 2-3 weeks and has since been extended to 3-4 weeks. This is the same shipping delay as that on Apple's website. What's rankled many of these Verizon customers is not just that their orders have been delayed out much longer than they were promised, but that Verizon has charged many of these customers for their orders well in advance of those orders actually shipping.

Verizon has not commented on the matter, but even if it does so, it's unlikely it'll be able to do much to fix the situation to everyone's satisfaction. Demand for the iPad 2 has vastly outstripped supply almost everywhere, so those few unfortunate Verizon customers finding themselves in this mess have little recourse, sadly.

It is April 16. I ordered iPad 2 from the Verizon store on March 19. I was told 3 to 5 days delivery. No iPad. Call CS they said 2, weeks. No iPad. Called CS, told 3 to 4 weeks from purchase. This is 4th week. No iPad. The store manager told me to check with them daily???? I asked the manager why??? They have my cell number, my email, my work number. With each passing deadline I was told someone would contact me...... To date Verizon has never contacted me on any occasion other than to send me a bill for services I could not use.

I ordered on 3/12 from Verizon and was told 2 weeks. No problem. I called last week to see if the order was on track and they told me it should be shipped on 3/28. On 3/28 it was two weeks and still no update from Verizon. Most people on the forum were told 2-3 weeks so I figure this will be the same for me. Not a big deal.

However, the fact that I can no longer cancel my order or have them lookup my order at all really bothers me. I have a local store that has a few iPad's in stock with 3G, however, if I want to return the Verizon one that I ordered - there is a $70 fee.

I just put the blame on customer service (the department more than the reps) for not providing the correct information to people.

There were a lot of complaints about the Death Grip too. But I think the iRod would have put a stop to that. Ok, maybe not. But at least the video was pretty funny...

So I ordered from verizon on the 12th. They told me 3 days, I told them I didn't believe them. I called three days later and they told me 3 weeks. This is just one of the many supporting arguments why verizon is over rated especially regarding their customer service

I *still* don't see what the big deal is. I ordered my iPad2 from the Apple website on the day it came out, with a stated 2-3 week ship time, and it won't arrive until sometime next week. The only people I know that have theirs already either queued up the day before and stood in line for 18+ hours or they were at SXSW and picked one up there.

I ordered my iPad through a 3rd party retailer. They were told that the orders would ship the day before they were available and arrive on Monday. On Monday, they were told that they had been reserved and one model was shipping. They have received a few, but still not the 16 gb black wifi model I ordered.

Based on the Amazon availability, I think it may be a VZ noob thing with the iPad 2.

Interestingly enough, when you go to Amazon and try and order one right now and select AT&T as the carrier, it shows it available. When you select Verizon, the availability link goes away.
