Apple airs first iPad 2 television commercial

Apple has released its first iPad 2 television commercial. Titled "We Believe," the ad has sentimental narration reminiscent of Apple's old Think Different ads. The narrator states, "This is what we believe: Technology alone is not enough. Faster, thinner, lighter ... those are all good things. But when technology gets out of the way, everything becomes more delightful ... even magical. That's when you leap forward. That's when you end up with something like this," while shots of the iPad playing video, reading books, typing an email, creating a Numbers document and using GarageBand for iPad play in the background. The ad has been posted to Apple's YouTube page and on Apple.com.

I've been wanting Apple to air something like this for years. Almost all of their ads have had a "look, we're better then them" light hearted, "bouncy" mood. From the "I'm a Mac" ads to the "If you don't have an iPhone" ones. This new ad is different. It almost seems like they've matured, and they are past calling on their competitors. Like they know everyone sees what a success they've been. This ad feels right. It's simple, but it leaves a smile on my face every time I watch it.

Hey Apple, I don't even need an ad to sell me on your device. I have my 500 bucks, in my hand. If only I could walk into a store and give it to you, and in exchange, you give me an iPad. Simple as that.

Seriously, I live in NYC and I'm about to try for a third time to give you my money. This "shortage" is a joke.

You do know that you can order online, don't you? :-)

I've had my iPad 2 since March 16 (online order; engraved). It is the single best piece of technology I've ever owned. The ad sums up the experience superbly and succinctly.

There are probably 40 million people TODAY who want one. This equals a shortage as they can't make 40 million ipads TODAY. Get over it.

The actor doing the narration is familiar, but I can't think of his name.

a Very good commercial with a true Apple-esque message...

Although it is very similar to the recent Window 7 phone commercials, with the emphasis of apps and interface not getting in the way of getting work or life done....

"But when technology gets out of the way, everything becomes more delightful..." Bull's eye! That just about sums it up and that's what Apple is all about. There's a ton of wonderful technology there, if you want to fuss with it. And if you don't want to fuss with it, no problem.

What a terrible commercial. To really sell the thing, they need to have giant robots or something, and a guy hooking up cables to some strange machine that harnesses lightning bolts. Showing what the thing does? What nonsense. What's epic about that? Where are all the special effects?

(end lé sarcasm)

I don't watch a lot of tv- but from what I have seen, there are a lot less droid ads since the iPhone came to verizon.

If only it was available... :) Seems odd to advertise something, that you cannot buy.
