EyeTV for iOS 1.2.3 released, introduces AirPlay support
Today, Elgato released version 1.2.3 of its iOS EyeTV software. Now available for download from iTunes, the US$4.99 EyeTV app finally adds the highly-requested AirPlay support so many customers have been looking for.
EyeTV's iOS app works with your home computer, allowing you to view programs recorded by hardware connected to your Macintosh. TUAW has extensively covered EyeTV's hardware/software tuner solutions.
The new AirPlay feature allows you to transmit both live and recorded TV from your iPhone or iPad and route that video to Apple TV (or to third-party receiver applications that support the AirPlay protocol).
Now you can enjoy your TV recordings on the road, not only on your relatively small iPhone or iPad screen but also on any Apple TV/AirPlay receiver, with their large monitor and HDTV support.

I have never actually gotten EyeTV streaming to work over the public internet. It works great on my own wi-fi network. Over the public internet, not so much. I can only guess this is because my computer goes to sleep? (I do have Wake on Network access checked in network preferences). I also have port forwarding setup in my router. However, my computer uses DHCP to get the IP so it changes quite often. I guess I need to use a static IP if I want streaming over the public internet to work?

I had similar problems with my eyetv HD. I have the mac mini that I use for eyetv set to never sleep and it seemed to help. My computer uses DHCP as well.
I don't understand why AirPlay support was requested. I have used the EyeTV app extensively to stream recordings from my Mac to my iPad. However, in what scenario would I would to stream from my iPad back to an AppleTV.
Can't an AppleTV stream from the EyeTV library on a Mac directly? (if the answer is no I guess I see the reason for AirPlay support, if the answer is yes, I don't understand).
I guessed there was something I was missing.

Adding AirPlay support is awesome too. Although in my setup I don't really need it. What I really need is better exporting options on the mac software so that I can automatically add programs to iTunes when they're done recording AT MY CUSTOM settings rather than their lossy default settings.
@ph0604 I think you're missing what it does... The EyeTV HD is like an HD DVR on your mac. So in my office I have a DirecTV box next to my mac and HD component cables plugged from that to the EyeTV HD box which goes USB to the mac. It has software that runs in the background on your mac that acts as a DVR. It can change channels on the DirecTV box... record whole seasons of shows, everything a TiVo can do.
Then you can easily convert those shows to AppleTV format and put them in iTunes and watch them on anywhere there's an apple tv. Or load them on an iPad or iPhone from iTunes.
The EyeTV software for iOS does something cool. The eyeTV software on the mac acts as a server and when you register your computer is discoverable anywhere on the net. The iOS software logs in to your computer at home, from anywhere, and allows to you watch live tv, or watch any of your DVR'd recordings. During the tsunami I watched the live feed from my bed on an iPad and recorded everything to my 2TB hard drive.
So yeah.. the airplay might be cyclical in that if you already have a DirecTV box on every tv in your house then watching live tv over airplay is redundant. But watching DVR'd stuff might not be. Of course for me it is because I can already play those over appleTV via iTunes.
But I have a appleTV in my kid's room with no cable.. Now I can bring up a dvr'd kids show and airplay it to that tv two ways.. either over itunes or airplay over the eyetv app.
So thanks to AirPlay you can Send live TV from your iphone or iPad to your Apple TV. Am I missing something? What's wrong with watching live TV on your TV set?
