iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak available, but not for iPad 2
The iPhone dev team released the latest version of its PwnageTool for iOS 4.3.1. Thanks to the work of Stefan Esser, both the PwnageTool and redsn0w now provide an untethered jailbreak for this latest version of iOS. This untethered jailbreak is compatible with all 4.3.1 devices except for the iPad 2, which is not susceptible to either the limera1n or SHAtter bootrom exploits.
If you own an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 (GSM), iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G, iPad 1G or AppleTV 2G (PwnageTool only), then head over to the dev team's blog and download the tools to jailbreak your iOS device.
As always, follow the directions carefully and heed their warning about unlocking. If you use ultrasn0w for unlocking, you may have to pass on this jailbreak until the team updates the unlock tool to support 4.3.1.

I have tried using PwnageTool to jailbreak my iPod touch (4th gen,) and it creates the .ipsw file, but when i do the restore, it does not install the Cydia app, nor appear jailbroken. Is anyone else having problems similar to mine, and is there a way to troubleshoot?
April 10 2011 at 6:52 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyNewb question. Where do I get the IPSW file both programs are asking for to begin?
April 04 2011 at 7:52 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyFound the download for the firmware, but redsn0w isn't working. At all. I'm going to try PwnageTool next.

April 04 2011 at 6:18 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyi've tried both of the available jailbreaks today with no luck. I'm testing it on my itouch4 before hitting my iphone. Both seem to require that you download and patch iOS 4.3.1 and then rebuild your device. In both cases this hasn't worked for me. I started the process twice on one of them and it didn't finish uploading to the itouch. the itouch eventually bailed out. I tried it with redsnow and the patched firmware was nowhere to be found though the patching process said it was complete. I ended up updating the itouch to iOS 4.3.1 unbroken and will leave my devices this way until this process doesn't require a rebuild. I'll happily live with my jailbroken iphone4 in 4.2.1 for now. Hopefully someone comes along and tells me I have it all wrong and I can patch in place.
April 04 2011 at 3:22 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySo, I wrote the above and then decided to try this again. I figured if this is working for so many others I must be missing something. I've jailbroken many devices before and for the all too familiar, we tend to not read everything. GUILTY AS CHARGED. I ask any of you doing this for the first time or 20th time - READ EVERY WORD of your favorite jailbreak tool and EVERY step. I'm doing this on a PC and didn't pay attention to the part that told me clearly that the patched iOS 4.3.1 file would be on my DESKTOP. DUH! There it is. Using Snowbreeze, I started the process again and all is working as it should. iOS 4.3.1, jailbroken and cydia installed. It works. be patient - READ EVERYTHING!
April 04 2011 at 4:02 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyPerhaps a silly question but i wouldn't mind some input:
my Iphone 3GS (4.2.1) with baseband 05.13.04 (is that considered to be old?)
I jailbroke it with pwnage tool and then unlocked it via cydia with ultrasn0w.
I can't get a straight answer from dev team blog, does it mean that i shouldn't try it now or it'll be okay if i go ahead and upgrade using pnwage tool?
Thank you all
Well, lovely.
Updated Apple TV2. Working.. but I cannot install a single application or anything. All the dependencies are broken or not there. The installers say the installs are broken. I knew I should have waited a little longer.
Some advice needed please ! :)
I jailbroke my iPad 1 using Spirit. I'm on iOS 3.2 and still using iTunes 9.2 (mac os)
whats the best path to use this jailbreak? Update the iPad to 4.3.1 first?
As soon as got up this morning, I downloaded and used the latest PwnageTool to bring both iPhone 3GS and iPad1 up to 4.3.1
Both devices feel snappier.
this would be my first time jailbreaking. which of the tools is easiest for a newbie? I would like to video mirror display my iPad 1. also, what are the benefits of JB for the apple TV 2g?
April 04 2011 at 12:09 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyredsn0w has fewer options and displays step-by-step instructions to follow. That one should be pretty easy.
April 04 2011 at 1:27 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI am already on 4.3.1, and ready to run redsnow,
I do not want to restore my phone to factory before I jailbreak.
Will I have to re-install all my apps/music/movies, or will they stay in place. Thanks!!
I think you should be fine as long as you're running 4.3.1. Just follow the redsn0w instructions and you'll probably be set.
