Atomix is the iPad's first video game magazine

There are more and more magazines appearing on the iPad now, some good and some bad. Atomix is definitely at the good end of the spectrum, not least because it's being produced by Area 5, former creators of the 1UP Show at 1UP.com.

"The iPad app is intended as a global product," says Atomix founder Oscar Noriega, "and we knew we needed to release simultaneously to Spanish and English-language markets." That and a desire for a heavy video content led to Area 5.

"We loved the idea from the start," says Area 5 co-founder Ryan O'Donnell. "We're huge fans of the possibilities inherent in touch-screen devices and we knew even from early versions of the app that Atomix 'got' it."

Atomix sells for US$0.99 per issue at the moment, although subscription options will be available eventually. The magazine will be covering games from all over, not just on the iOS platform; L.A. Noire is on the cover, and among other games, Atomix also covers Killzone 3, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 and Journey.

Just got to say that I REALLY love the magazine, and I'm so glad to see Area5 doing what they do best. I have very high hopes for this magazine and want to subscribe. I hope subscription options will be available soon. Great job and keep it coming!

So much for the "global" product... the iPad magazine is not available in Mexico. Neither in English or Spanish.

Best Buy has had Gamer Magazine in iPad form for a long time.

Free download in the app store.

Of course I'd probably really like the magazine a lot if it actually downloaded. On my 3rd try, keep getting errors, but only after it took my money. Looking forward to it though. Especially if they can produce a magazine for .99 regularly.

I have been eagerly anticipating such a publication, and hoped it would be Steve Harris' revamed EGM. I will be downloading Atomix tonight, and checking it out.

Because Video game vs. videogame is a style guide choice, not a grammatical choice and we chose "videogame." It's the same style EGM/1UP always used while we were there and our grammar people there were very vehement about it's value as a compound-word-noun :)

How am I supposed to take them seriously when they spell 'video game' as a single word?

If you’re a gaming fan, than you’re more than likely familiar with the Area 5 crew, who were behind the great 1UP Show and CO-OP online video shows about games. They are providing most of the content for a new videogame magazine on iPad that has just launched, Atomix.

They will soon offer a subscription option, but they’ve already got pricing right, with each issue selling for $1 — the first issue is already available on the iTunes App Store, and a Spanish edition will soon follow.
