Rumor: iPhone 5 won't be shipping until fiscal 2012
Here's the latest iPhone 5 rumor. Business Insider (BI) suggests that iPhone 5 production won't begin until September, which means at the earliest it would hit shelves in October, or the first quarter of Apple's fiscal 2012.
BI goes on to suggest that it's possible the iPhone 5 won't ship until calendar 2012. The report comes from an Avian Securities analyst, based on conversations with a "key component supplier" to Apple.
I really don't know about this rumor. I can see Apple holding off on the iPhone 5 until the fall so that it could add LTE. Also, such a delay would give Verizon iPhone 4 customers who bought on day one a little more time to feel that their device is the latest and greatest. But, having no new iPhone hardware debut in 2011 seems like a big stretch to me.
Of course, Alvin also suggests that Apple could be introducing a lower price/lower spec iPhone model, which is basically the iPhone nano rumor rehashed again. If Apple is going to hold off on the iPhone 5 until calendar 2012, then an iPhone nano might just tide the angry masses and shareholders over until then.

Apple could not wait that long. The Thunderbolt is already years ahead of the iPhone.

Apple is NOT going to shrink the iphone screen smaller than 3.5" EVER. PERIOD. Until some time in the (near?) future, a strechable screen or some 3D hologram or some HD projection tech is viable, then yes, we might see a nano phone but a smaller size screen without that? NO. N. O. End of story, bigger screen - yes. They seem to start this rumor in hopes that they are right and can 'told you so.' They have only been wrong for 5 YEARS - the sad thing is that is the only imaginable "second" iphone their brains can forsee ... honestly,if they were smarter, maybe they wouldn't be working there and anywhere else? Or worse, if they were at Apple, that's what they be flogging ... of course, as son as those words escaped their lips, SJ would fire an idiot ... the other thing is a "cheap" iphone. Ever disregarding the $49 iphone (which they do not seem to have noticed exists) - the iphone costs $199 or $299 - if that amount of money is "expensive," do NOT buy an iPhone. $149 or even $99 is not that much different, if you find it hard to scrap together $199 as I woul've in HS, this phone is not for you ... but hey, that would be too much thinking instead of just saying 'cheap' iphone would increase sales - without even noticing that Apple seems to e able to sell EVERY iphone it makes at $199 or $299 and growing at nearly 100% every year in iphone sales ... And the only manufacturer who never has to discount the phone until the new model comes out - no other mobile manufacture can claim that.

It seems suspiciously like Apple just wants to keep iPhone 4's moving right up to the inevitable June release.
A 4G(S) type incremental upgrade would be easy to pull off in 2011, no? Save the iPhone 5 for early 2012 so everyone (AT&T and Verizon) gets on the same cycle. If you start staggering release times for phones, it will add fuel to the 'fragmentation' fire.

The iPhone 4 is more than adequate for another 8 months and gets people out of the mindset of expecting something new every June.
This timeline could make sense. The T-Mobile/AT&T merge timeline would make it so that the iPhone 5 would work on both 3G networks. Wouldn't surprise me one bit.

Spring 2012 (or Christmas 2011) -> TMo 3G bands, AT&T LTE, integrate Verizon, still use the A5, throw in some last minute iOS candy, full cloud / MobileMe integration, maybe NFC - all carriers and customers on the same page.
In the meantime maybe release a 4GS for those looking to upgrade? Or does that give Android too much lead time?
So just because Apple released the iPhone for Verizon, they don't want to hurt their feelings by releasing the iPhone5 in the summer? What about all of us 3gs owners who have waited two years to get an upgrade, and are about to have our contracts up? Probably a lot more of us than Verizon iPhone4 customers. Does Apple want us to jump ship to a Droid?
April 11 2011 at 3:50 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySo I'm I the only person who At&t gives yearly upgrades to. I've got two year pricing every year.

Apple's biggest market is just not the US but global. CDMA is not that big in other countries. I feel Apple would never slow production just to make Verizon customers happy. If anything, they may just throw a few iTunes credits to appease the early Verizon iPhone adopters.

April 11 2011 at 3:49 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyCome on! apple. My iphone 3G lags so often, that I get the urge to hurl it into a wall sometimes. I was banking on a June refresh, and I don't think I can wait much longer.
