iPad 2 now shipping in 1 to 2 weeks from online stores
It always pays to be patient.
While the iPad 2 had wait times of 4 to 5 weeks at launch, the devices are now shipping in 1 to 2 weeks from the U.S. online store. The ship times are consistent across all models, whether black, white, Verizon, AT&T, or with different storage capacities.
The new shipping times could be due to lower demand, but considering that it is still difficult to purchase an iPad 2 at many Apple Stores, the cause is probably Apple clearing up any production issues.
The new shipping estimates are not only showing up in the American Apple online store, but in Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, and Australia online stores as well. European countries are still showing 2 to 3 week estimates, but it's likely that the shipping times will decrease for the European and Asian markets as well.

Ordered my 64GB i-pad 2 on 13 Apr. Delivery date still shows 5 May. Already bought several cases and applecare plan for it from e-bay, now just waiting on the device. Be great if I could get it sooner.
April 21 2011 at 3:28 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThis is not hard to figure out. Example: 3 weeks ago, wait time was 3 weeks. 2 weeks ago it becomes 2 weeks, this week it's 1 week. Do you see the pattern? It's just getting CLOSER to the SAME ship date, thus updating.

A step in the right direction, but certainly not as big a reduction as one would hope after waiting so long. The status of my order has been "Prepared for shipment" since last night; I guess I'm waiting for a plane to land in China to pick it up. Just one more week to go, so I'm not going to complain any longer.

I'm not following the logic... if you can't get it right now online and you can't get it right now in the store, how does this decrease in online wait times point to production process improvements?
From what I can see, we just don't have enough information... it could be due to improved production, it could be due to decreased demand, it could be partly due to both.
Or maybe the demand for a $700 tablet is not as high as they anticipated. I think this whole shortage of supply, increased demand is a scam anyway. If you inflate the demand for the machine then you dont have to offer a sale price and can get concessions by offering it through select merchants, like Best Buy. They are like concert tickets, we say there is a limited supply to U2 in a 10,000 seat arena because we close off the top tiers which have 6,000 seats. Now we are all supposed to fight for the 4,000 seats and pay a premium for the privilege. But when we dont, then they have to open more rows so the concert isnt a money loser.
They said mine would ship on the 5th and deliver on the 6th. I dont see why I shouldnt get it on the 28th. If it is already made, put it on a plane and ship it straight from the factory.
European Stores like the German or the Dutch got 1 - 2 week shipping times, too. ;)
