Samsung shoots back, files patent lawsuits against Apple

Samsung has shot back against Apple and filed lawsuits in Korea, Japan and Germany just three days after Apple filed suit against Samsung for copying the iPhone, iPad and iOS. Samsung has issued a statement saying, "Samsung is responding actively to the legal action taken against us in order to protect our intellectual property and to ensure our continued innovation and growth in the mobile communications business."

The statement also said that the patent suit filed by Samsung involved infringements on up to five Samsung patents, but it did not elaborate as to which patents it was referring to. Stay tuned, things are about to get messy.

We design stuff for S. Interiors and other properties. In the meetings, S starts out by saying ... "We would like to be like Apple. Here are photos of Apple stores" Even there ads and posters are similar once Apple kicked off there ads.
Not to stereo type, but they are excellent copiers. Not to strong on original ideas. And they also work there ass's off. Its war to them to win at all costs.

I actually hope the public pays attention to how vial apple is being latley ... I suppose apple is sillicon vally's equivalent of that kid we all knew in school that would not share his toys !! Ha that was probably steve jobs as a kid !! Pathetic, scared and insecure ... Get over it... Your only as good as your last idea ... I have always admitted apple for crushing the competition with innovation - not crying and whining !!!

You are on a tech blog, please try and articulate like an adult. Your spelling and syntax is atrocious.

Not very nice of you to make fun of my handicap though! Next time try to stay on point... This is a tech blog not a blog to complain about the failing of the public education system!

@Lars ... Could not agree more except you forgot Ives shameless rip of of Bang and Olefson's interface design.

@Patrick ... Lol you are funny! Just because an apple lawyer skillfully crafts a claim does not make it anymore valid !!! Aside from reading pages of claims you should read the psychopathic history of steve jobs... Then read how psychopaths function and in addition to this claim you will have a better understanding of the reasons for apples lawsuit !!

Samsung shares dropped 2.6% on the news, representing $3.64B in shareholder value. It's hard to make that up with patent infringement damages in Germany, Japan, and South Korea, even if they did prevail. I think shareholders and the business units that supply ~$6B in components to Apple might want them to consider a different strategy.

So you basically support frivolous law suits and corporate bullying. Apple is trying to claim ownership of a rectangle. Tablets for storing information have been around for thousands of years. Touch interfaces will inevitably contain the same solutions.

Apple should accept that and take a look at their own history of ripping off, nay, 'improving upon' existing design (Braun) and interfaces (Xerox).

Lawsuits and counter lawsuits are not helpful, but I am pleased Samsung pushes back.

@Lars, you really might want to read Apple's complaint against Samsung. It covers utility patent infringement, design patent infringement, trademark infringement, and trade dress claims. I see why some are upset by the simplified coverage that filters through the press, but if you read the actual suit, you'll see there is quite a bit more to it, and you'll learn a lot about the different types of IP. There are links on my site if you look at the Samsung category.

What a load of crap. If Samsung had a case they would not have waited until  sued them. Retaliatory suits are always a ploy and they never work. You know what else never works? Superlatives.

Huh, all the companies copy each other. Its not like Apple is always original. Samsung is not original either.
