Apple issues iMac Hard Drive Firmware Update 1.0

Apple has issued iMac Hard Drive Firmware Update 1.0. The firmware update fixes a hard drive issue that may prevent some iMac (21.5-inch and 27-inch, Mid 2010) systems from booting properly. The update requires Mac OS X 10.6.7 or later and weighs in at 767 KB. You can download it by running Software Update or via Apple's support site here.

Same as Michael and Dan - bought my 27" iMac 2.93 i7 via the refurb store in Oct-Nov time-frame, yet nothing shows up in Software Update (both the Font and iPhoto updates released today did). Can't say I've had a problem booting though, and I always boot into 64-bit mode with all peripherals attached and running, but it still makes me wonder how/why Software Update doesn't list this for me/us? Are there any more specifics on the update? (the Apple site just says "mid-2010" and nothing more.)

Interesting. I wonder if this is related to the oddity I noticed with my iMac (which happens to be one of these "mid-2010" models)?

A month or two back, my iMac refused to reboot. It just hung indefinitely. I eventually narrowed it down to my USB HD dock. I always turned it on, popped in an HD, did my backup, then unmounted and removed the HD and turned it off. This time, it turns out that I had forgotten to turn it off, and if it was turned on while booting the iMac wouldn't boot. I assumed it was that the iMac was trying to enumerate all the drives in the system and since it couldn't read the non-existent drive it just hung.

My 27" iMac wouldn't boot last month.
The Geniuses first diagnosed a bad logic board, then determined that the HD was bad and replaced the drive. It was in the Apple store for 10 days.

The brief description sounds like this may have been the problem. hmmmm.
