iPad as concert camera is kind of crazy
Concert shots from a mobile device are enjoyable to take and so much fun to look at when the event is over. Those grainy pictures seem to capture the excitement of the moment, and you can't help but look cool when thrusting your mobile device in the air to snag an impromptu shot. That is unless your mobile device is an iPad2.
Check out the following video spotted by Gizmodo and watch in shocked bemusement at the single person holding up an iPad 2 to take a picture of Kanye West in concert (at 00:24). Looking more like a luncheon tray whose reflective properties could blind the performer on stage, the brave soul holds his or her iPad 2 into the air subjecting it to all sorts of peril. One simple bump and the iPad could go crashing to the floor where it would be trampled by the dancing throng.
Not to mention that waving an iPad 2 in the air is just asking for someone to steal this highly desirable and hard to find device. It also makes you wonder where the person is storing the iPad 2 when they are not taking pictures? In a front pack, back pack or an iPad-sized fanny pack?
Read on for the video and feel free to comment on this highly unusual usage of an iPad 2.

I am a concert photographer. I'm seeing more and more of my peers using diffrent things to get photos. The iPad makes me laugh every time. It doesn't do bad for video, but the stills, blah.

I never understood people who film the concert or are taking pictures the whole time. Are you not there to enjoy the performance? Are you really going to ruin your concert memory and experience by listening to crappy audio of the concert that just kicked ass? Bootlegs from the 80's have better sound than an iPhone does.

Then again if your at a Kanye concert the douche things a given anyway.
Thank you. It had to be said. If people want to do it I can't stop them, but they should not kid themselves that they look at all cool.

Then I was crowd surfing with it and they dropped me, I hit the floor head first. When I woke up at the hospital later my iPad was nowhere to be seen so I used Find My iPad to recover it. It was a gang of punk rockers that took my iPad! Oddly enough the leader of the gang had a sweet soothing British accent! It was none other than Jony Ive.
Then I woke up.
Seriously though, the days of security guards blocking recording devices are gone. Everybody is carrying some kind of multimedia powerhouse with them. I just took in a Pixies concert in Montreal and while I saw TONS of iPhones 3-4, I saw no iPad 2s...
Anyone who knocks this has obviously not recorded concert footage from a good vantage point with an iPhone 4:

Every time I see a person raising their ipad 2 up to their face to take a pic,
I get reminded of Monty Python's Holy Grail movie, the scene where Monks walk around slapping their heads with their tablets.
The more the person raises their tablet up to take another pic, the more it get reminded of the movie
If you think this is crazy, then you should go to a concert at the Penny Arcade Expo. Expensive electronics are the geek equivalent of holding up your lighter.
