Square Enix-produced Imaginary Range comic book out now, free

About a week ago we heard Square Enix would be releasing an interactive comic for iOS, and now it's out and available on the App Store in the US on the same date as the Japanese release. While the early reviews are terrific, with art that's supposed to be really solid and interactive parts keeping everything enjoyable, the real kicker is the price. Square Enix has released the app for free. That's a solid deal, so if you're looking for a little something to read through and play with this weekend, there you go.

There's an HD iPad version as well, and it's also free. With this, those upcoming Chaos Rings titles, and the arrival of the great Final Fantasy 3 on the iPad recently, Square Enix is really delivering some solid titles for iOS users.

I'd hardly call it a solid title - more like another example of Square Enix not being the company they were just a few years ago. The story was incoherent and the gameplay was about as exciting as watching water boil. It may have been free, but the opportunity cost of playing through this stinker wasn't worth it. Plus, I'm sick of seeing Moogles whored out to cheap products!

It was actually out a few days ago - or in Canada, anyway.

Not bad, so far. The idea of an "interactive comic book" with mini games is interesting. I haven't gotten too far in yet, so I hope the mini games are unlocked for standalone play later.

This one's free, but I assume they'll do more if this one's popular, that they'll sell for a buck or two. The first one needs to be free, as it seems to be a departure from anything else Square Enix has done so they need an incentive for people to try it out and decide they like it.
