President Obama gets an iPad 2 filled with Polish pride

President Obama is on a European tour, and one of his stops included Poland. Before parting, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk gave President Obama several gifts, a usual custom for visiting dignitaries. One of those gifts was an iPad 2. President Obama already has an iPad 2, but TUAW reader Darek points out this iPad 2 was just a "container" for other Polish goodies, including some masterful Polish movies.
"One of them was 'Cathedral' by Tomasz Bagiński, which got Oscar nomination several years ago," Darek says. "There was also a masterpiece 'City of Ruins' -- a digitally recreated aerial panorama of post-war Warsaw, almost totally destroyed during WWII."
Darek also told us President Obama received another gift, the hot video game "The Witcher 2," which is made in Poland.

It is a neighbourhood in downtown Chicago...

Nobody thought this would be a bad title to give to a head of state?
>If 6 million Polish citizens wouldn't be killed in World War 2 by invaders from west and east, it would be 2nd largest economy of Europe nowadays.
Stop whining! Germany lost the war, half of the country for more than 40 years. All major cities were destroyed. More people were killed than in Poland.
Germany was an industrial country before the war and build it up again. Poland was an agrarian state before and after the war. No way, that they would be no 2 in Europe even with 6mil citizens more.
Technology in/from Poland: well, if you use a "Tupolew Tu-154M" to fly your Country's Elite to death, I would not call it Technology.
Still no word back on your application to the diplomatic corps? I don't understand why.
May 29 2011 at 1:04 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYou need to remember some facts:
1. After Warsaw Rising in 1944, Nazis packed EVERYTHING what was worth of moving to Germany. Thousands of wagons with steel, pipes, all private goods were moved to Germany. Only ruins and thousands of dead bodies were left.
2. Almost all scientists, doctors, physicians, officers and other educated persons were killed by Nazis ans Soviets in 1940-41. Remaining were oppressed for the next 45 years.
3. After IIWW, Germany started to rebuild with tons of stolen gold and real help from US. Poland started with ruins, bricks, poor uneducated people and opression of Soviets.
I do not believe that Poland could be number 2 in Europe but let's not exaggerate skills of Germans.
That's a great gift! I hope it also contains a photo slideshow of Wojtek, the bear that was a Polish soldier. (Look it up - fun factoid!)
