Video of iOS 5 on an iPhone 3GS and a 4 side by side

The folks at AppleRumors Italia did a side-by-side video comparison of iOS 5 on both the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4. As you can see in the video, the two models perform similarly with only a small amount of lag apparent on the iPhone 3GS during certain tasks, like loading a complex web page.
The biggest difference is the lack of some features, like HDR and photo editing, on the older iPhone 3GS. Though this is only one video, the results are encouraging for those still rocking a third-generation iPhone.

I like it so far. Though as one who heavily games on iPhone and iPad as well as developing games for iOS, the method for opening the notification center is proving to be a big problem. We're making a game that requires you to drag objects around, and on many occasions doing this opened up the notification center...VERY VERY annoying. Also was playing flight control yesterday and accidently pulled the notification center a couple of times. A 2 finger swipe would be a much smarter option than this...it's too easy to pull that notification center down especially in games. Its become a big problem when developeing our new title.

June 09 2011 at 1:51 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySo basically that's the slowest iPhone 4 in the world? Why did the 3GS beat it on almost every comparison?
June 09 2011 at 1:10 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyBecause it is slower on many of the tests they ran ! Lots if the tests they were doing involved the camera and images and the camera, being higher res, even with the extra processing power, can take longer to initialize. And to exit, if reclaiming mem etc.
Web browsing is much faster though.
Encouraging indeed. I just hope that there's an untethered jailbreak/unlock for it.

June 09 2011 at 11:47 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMy 3GS is constantly hanging when in Safari, Messages, Notification Center, receiving text messages. It's terrible. Absolutely terrible.
Lockscreen camera even resprings me a lot & even has caused my phone to force crash.
It's the iOS 4 3G plague again.
I installed iOS 5 last night. I'm lovin' it (see username). Everything is great......almost ... However, I was playing music this morning on my ip4 and noticing some pretty serious battery drain. Has anyone else had these sort of issues?
That being said. iMessage is fantastic w/my one other contact using iOS 5 right now in blue. Reminders has already proven useful, and watching my device sync iTunes while on a charger next to my bed instead of plugged into my MBPro was pretty cool too.
Oh, and the camera rocks. Everything about it.
Yeah, I also noticed heavy battery drain. It's a beta, though, so you can't complain. I'm sure all the issues like these will be addressed before final release.
Such as the iPad split-keyboard button crashing literally every app when used, or the springboard if you're not in an app.
The joys of pre-release software. At least now I know my apps all work.
Interesting...
I've heard a few people say iOS 5 is actually faster than iOS 4.
Yet, yesterday I did see a video with 3GS side by side comparison and in that video it was a lot slower on iOS5
My iOS 5 is actually much snappier and does everything almost instantly on my iPod 4. Pretty impressed with it.
