iPhone 5 reportedly in final testing phases, nearing production

9to5 Mac is reporting that the next-generation iPhone is in the final stage phase before production begins. Quoting a "previously accurate Apple source," 9to5 notes that some high-level Apple and carrier executives are testing near-final iPhone prototypes.

The source also claims that the new model will be released in September, and the Verizon model will still depend on Wi-Fi for FaceTime sessions (no word on if the AT&T model will handle FaceTime any differently that it currently does).

The September rumor his hardly new, as Reuters suggested it back in April. We'll know soon enough. In the meantime, start saving your pennies.

I agree with this article of why the iPhone 5 wasn't announced at WWDC http://bit.ly/mHLUd2

But that doesn't mean Apple has to drag its feet on the new phone. LG, Moto and Samsung are releasing better and improved Android handsets (Almost seems like every week a new Android phone comes out!). While iPhone 4 is now almost past its 1 year mark.

I think Apple made a mistake by not releasing the phone in the summer. In the summer its nicer out so people can stand in line more comfortably. People have vacation time to take at work to go stand in line. And it just makes summer feel "special". Having stood in line for all of the past iPhones, summer brings a "nostalgia" feeling when I think about summer.

My bet is it's still just a 3G phone but possible HSPA+ support on AT&T and T-Mobile, has the A5 processor, 8MP camera, and gets released on Sprint and T-Mobile in addition to Verizon and AT&T. Also has a design similar to the iPhone 4.

I don't understand the wifi FaceTime thing. It makes it useless.
