iPad brand four times stronger than competing tablets

A new Bernstein Research survey suggests Apple will dominate the tablet market in the same way its iPods dominate the MP3 market. According to the survey, 50% of respondents in the US and the UK prefer the iPad over competing tablets. Surprisingly, even tablets from successful smartphone manufacturers can't compete with the iPad. The survey results show the iPad is more popular in the US than tablets from HTC, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and RIM combined.

Apple also sets the standard for size with over 50% of respondents choosing the almost 10-inch display of the iPad over the 7-inch size used by Samsung and others. The preference is so strong that Bernstein Research predicts 7-inch tablets, like the BlackBerry PlayBook, are doomed to fail. Bernstein predicts two market scenarios for tablet devices, and in both situations, Apple is at the top and the other manufactures are vying for the leftover scraps.

I have both an IPAD and a DROIDX phone. My IPAD I use daily for work and tracking project plans, schedules, tasks, etc... My DROIDX I use for communications, personal calendar, contact lists. I personally like the flexibility of having two separate devices.

When Apple said 10" was the ideal size for tablets everybody else said Bull Sh#$. I think the secret is not in the size but the screen resolution and the fact that 1024 x 768 is the minimum resolution size for a good web experience. Also, a good majority of websites are designed for 1024 x 768 resolution.

well its rather easy. they have an insane amount of apps, are marketed well. and you can go to an apple store and play with one, see and touch, feel, ask questions and get answers. all other tablets your left with people who really have no knowledge, hidden in weird spots in stores as i've visited to satisfy my geeky obsession of trying competing tabs. its rather simple. i have both, and from where i stand, android has so much potential but its taking forever for them to catch up on backing of apps and software updates that keep improving in ios setting. personally im excited about new vizio tab with honeycomb coming soon that supposed to have ir to turn into a huge universal remote! for $349 as an added feature.

The big difference for the other manufacturers is that the iPod created a new market that didn't threaten existing markets much - they could afford not to compete at will. The iPad creates a new market but it also threatens existing markets enough that these manufacturers have to compete.

It did create a market, just happens that it's an iPad market and not a tablet one in general.

His point is that the iPad is starting to eat into netbook and notebook marketshare. Other manufacturers have to do something or risk being left out.
