Rumors suggest possible black MacBook Air

Rumors have pegged a new MacBook Air to be released between now and the end of July. The most obvious upgrades to Apple's popular ultra-thin laptop include a Thunderbolt port and Intel's Sandy Bridge processors. However, a new rumor suggest that Apple could at least offer one model of the upcoming MacBook Air in black.

MacRumors has reportedly received several independent tips that Apple is set to use a black anodized aluminum case on "at least some models" of the next MacBook Air. While there are no hard details to confirm the multiple tips, Apple has offered a high-end black MacBook in the past in addition to the white MacBooks it sold. Given the popularity of the MacBook Air, a black model isn't all that unlikely as it would allow Apple to further differentiate MacBook Air offerings for prospective buyers.

The MacBook Air was last updated in October 2010.

Black MacBook Air, I don't think that's going to happen. Black MacBook? I don't know if it will return but I'd like it.

MacRumors are running another article suggesting that this rumour is true, in that Apple has produced black MacBook Airs, but that there were issues with the coating absorbing bodily oils such that the finish became degraded. The result of this, apparently, is that the black MacBook Airs will not be coming yet.

So; if Apple does decide to make all new Mac/iOS products in a sleek jet black (which would be AWESOME…!!!); does that mean that Black is the new, uh, Black…?!? ;^p

Typical Apple. Instead of offering the most important option, A MATTE SCREEN, they'll dick around with colors instead.

Dude! Calm down about the MATTE SCREEN! You've said this on almost every article. And like I've already said to you once, the advantages are exaggerated. Shut up!

When I heard black MBA, I immediately thought of the old rubbery black Macbooks. It wasn't necessarily a bad material/texture but if I had to choose between aluminum or the rubbery black, I'd choose aluminum. Just much smoother and nicer looking (shiny shiny). But if it's a black aluminum.... then that might look pretty sleek.

Is it possible that Apple is refreshing all product lines at once this summer, coinciding with the release of 10.7, and they will all feature new jet-black appearances? Just a thought...
