NBC's iPad app doesn't support full episodes
Well, this is baffling. NBC released a free iPad app today that features clips of popular shows, photo galleries, games, trivia and schedules. Users can create a custom "my feeds" dashboard for keeping track of their favorite NBC programming.
What users can't do is watch full episodes of NBC shows. So why would you want this app?
NBC execs apparently don't realize that they aren't competing with ABC and FOX in the iOS space, they're competing with Angry Birds. A recent Flurry study noted that an average of 22 million people per day look at iOS apps. That's greater than NBC's own Monday Night Football audience and just shy of American Idol's typical pull.
You can grab the app here if you're into not watching NBC shows on your iPad. You know, between games of Angry Birds.

What doesn't make sense is this app's raison d'etre. Why spend resources on this app if it doesn't do the one thing that people would want the app for in the first place? If they're not going to stream episodes through the app, then it wasn't worth it to create the app to begin with.

As far as wasting a couple hundred words complaining about it goes, I think you could've saved yourself some time.
"NBC iPad app doesn't offer full episodes because NBC already has you paying for them on Hulu."
Simple as that.
"Oh. My. God. I can't believe the ignorant people here. NBC shows are on Hulu!!!!!!!! As well as Fox and ABC shows. what a joke of a story as well as the idiot comments."
Who gets this worked up by a company, in this case NBC, crippling their content for one specific platform? I don't think you understand what the big people are talking about.
Well, ABC's iPad app plays full episodes, and (as you say) they're on Hulu too. So being disappointed that NBC's doesn't do the same is a legitimate complaint.

Perhaps Steve will eventually show them the way?

I think other posts hit the point...
NBC is part of Comcast, so they already have one avenue of shows.
NBC was one of the founders of Hulu, so they have a second path to full episodes.
NBC was dragged back to iTunes literally kicking and screaming (and bleeding viewers from their cable shows)
There is no way there going to give Apple any way to make money off "them". iPad is a turf war for the next 20 years... where NBC has content and bandwidth, Apple has devices and apps..
It's bullsh*t like this that encourages piracy. Who wants to watch just a clip of an episode?

June 23 2011 at 8:04 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyNBC airs a program called Monday Night Football? you sure about that?
i don't think i've ever watched more than 5 minutes of a football game in my entire life... but even i am fairly certain that Monday Night Football was an ABC show.
Actually Monday Night Football airs on ESPN. It's been on ESPN for the last 5 years. Before that it was a longtime ABC show. Never on NBC. Maybe autocorrect to blame? ;)
June 23 2011 at 8:15 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyABC and ESPN are sister companies. and i used past tense of "was on ABC" as it well known as being an ABC show. but either way... it was NEVER on NBC.
and autocorrect isn't going to word a sentence with "NBC's own" ...
NBC has SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
