Samsung files ITC complaint against Apple

Samsung and Apple's legal battle over trademark and patent infringement continues to heat up. The latest salvo was fired by Samsung which lodged a complaint with the ITC asking for a ban on the import of the iPhone, iPad and iPod. The court has up to 18 months to make a decision on this request. Apple has yet to file an ITC complaint, but it is likely to do so after this move by Samsung.

The bigger question is not about trade dress and infringement, but the weakening relationship between Samsung and Apple. Are the two companies headed for a separation or will they stay manufacturing BFFs throughout this legal skirmish?

Biting the hand that feeds it is incredibly stupid.

As a side note, this is a great example of why large conglomerates with multiple, merged disciplines hinder internal growth as well as external competition.

They need to buy a controlling interest in Sammy. It'd probably be cheaper in the long run.

I believe that would be one of the few purchases that would stretch Apple's finances.

But regardless of whether Apple could afford it, such a purchase would pass neither regulatory approval nor (Samsung) shareholder agreement.

I think that this is goodbye. I mean, correct me of I'm wrong, but of Samsung is asking the ITCH to ban the import of Apple products, Samsung is asking the ITC to ban the import Samsung's iOS device components. Samsung can't have a multibillion dollar customer if the customer is unable to sell products using Samsung components, right?

Im convinced Apple will use its cash and resources to cut Samsung out of being a supplier. It will show them not to mess with Apple. They will be happy to get a scrappy supplier willing to do whatever it takes to get into apple and invest in them and cut Samsung out of the picture. Samsung should have settled and been done with it.

^ this.

Between the cozy Apple-Intel partnership and Apple's previous purchase of semiconductor companies, I think it is clear that the future Apple will not be buying from Samsung.

Which explains, neatly, a) why Apple is continuing with this action instead of settling, b) why Samsung is continuing with this action instead of settling, c) why Samsung are determined to become the leading supplier of Android handsets and tablets, and d) why the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything is 42.

You do realize that Samsung does not need Apple? Apple thought they did and that's why all of this is going on.
