iOS 5 beta 3 tethered jailbreak is out, requires Windows PC

That didn't take long. Apple sent out iOS 5 beta 3 yesterday, and now a sn0wbreeze update has already jailbroken the beta.
It's a tethered jailbreak (requires a Windows machine, in fact) and if you happen to be the type of person who just doesn't feel right without a jailbroken iOS device, you can download sn0wbreeze 2.8b4 and go to town.
Engadget mentioned that there are features like custom alerts for text messages in iOS 5 beta 3, and also posted the following video from AppleNApps which purported to show that you could put app icons anywhere on the home screen of an iOS 5 device. The commenters on Engadget were quick to point out that this "feature" is actually a bug in beta 3 and not a new feature. Whoops!

Yeah Steve, come on, man! I expected better from you! Beta 3 has been jailbroken since Beta 1 was out using the same version of redns0w from weeks ago. And I don't think rednsn0w runs on Windows yet for the betas. Honestly, I wouldn't trust anything from iH8sn0w. He's really more of a hack who takes the Dev Team's work and does dangerous things to get it working on other platforms. The Dev Team has said as much themselves.
Steve, you are my favorite author here, but you didn't do your homework on this one...
While I agree for the majority of what you're saying about iH8sn0w, the one thing that sn0wbreeze has, which makes it "better" than redsn0w is the ability to make a custom IPSW. I have my iPhone 4 unlocked with ultrasn0w, but I have to make sure that my baseband stays preserved at 01.59.00. If I just update with a stock IPSW and jailbreak with redsn0w, I would have my baseband updated. With sn0wbreeze I can prevent that. Or at least I can until the much better, and prettier to say the least, Pwnage Tool gets updated with the actual public release of iOS5.
Also, there is a Windows redsn0w. For the first time in iOS history, Apple has made it possible for Windows users to use a beta iOS firmware, with a beta iTunes.
Steve, I'm disappointed in you. This article needed some serious fact checking before it went up.

Was stated pretty clearly a whole day before this article was written.
While I applaud them for covering this kind of news, it is pathetic how it has been 4 years since the iPhone Dev Team gave us the first jailbreak and unlock and instead of covering them for this story, they cover some also ran hacker (ih8sn0w) and his program.

It's now been updated to allow using the beta 3 IPSW file, although even the prior version worked on beta 3 as long as you also had the beta 1 file around. Sn0wbreeze came afterwards, from ih8sn0w, not the Dev Team. While it uses the same exploit as redsn0w, it differs in function in that it creates a custom IPSW that doesn't update your baseband if you don't want it to (it's basically a Windows version of Pwnagetool, which the Dev Team has not updated for iOS 5 yet).

Redsn0w (Mac and Windows) also works: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/redsn0w-iOS5
