AirPlay mirroring for FaceTime appears to be coming in iOS 5

Here's some interesting news. It appears that FaceTime will gain AirPlay support with iOS 5. Rene Ritchie at TiPb has posted a screenshot of a FaceTime call up on a big TV. Noting that he "snuck out to a developer friend's place to try it out," Rene calls the experience "magical."

This feature is available in iOS 5 beta 3, but as Rene correctly points out, not all beta features make it to the final product. If it does, however, millions of people will benefit, and my childhood dream of owning a Jetsons phone will finally be realized.

With all the talk of iOS5 allowing Bluetooth on AppleTV, it could be possible that Apple will either release a Bluetooth webcam or USB webcam that you hook into it, place on your tv and then Facetime chat with from your living room, ala Microsoft's Kinect. It's coming, its just whether or not it will arrive in September.

Uh, yeah. Sinne one of the marketed features of iOS 5 is over-the-air mirroring of EVERYTHING, I don't get why FaceTime would be an exception. Did you miss the keynote, perhaps?

Also, as an apple news site, it'd be great If your login system would work better with apple iOS products, it gives me trouble every time. I get stuck on a blank "auth helper" page when I try.

When Steve Jobs shows off the feature and shows a live demo of it I sure hope it makes it to the public release. (AirPlay mirroring)

Soooo… you'll have a Facetime video on your TV set of the caller either looking down at the camera on their phone or of the camera angled up from below? Because otherwise, you'd have to hold the phone in front of your face, negating the point of mirroring to the TV.

Umm... duh. AirPlay mirroring works just like normal (hdmi) mirroring. Plug your iPad up to a TV with the hdmi dongle and you'll see exactly what you'd see with AirPlay.
