35 percent of customers polled say they'll buy the iPhone 5 right now, no matter what it is

Haters will call it the "reality distortion field" effect; others will call it the sign of being the best smartphone on the market. Whatever you attribute it to, it's good news for Apple. Experian's PriceGrabber shopping website polled almost 3,000 US consumers and found that 35 percent of them said they will buy the iPhone 5 sight unseen. That means that for these people, all you have to do is tell them the iPhone 5 is out and they'll plunk down cash for it right then and there without setting their eyes on it, testing it out, or even reading about its features.

As for when people plan to buy the iPhone 5, 30 percent of respondents said they will buy it before the end of 2011, 14 percent will buy it within its first month of release, and 7 percent will buy it within the first week. The biggest feature wishes respondents have for the iPhone 5? 59 percent hope the new phone has better battery life, 55 percent hope it's less expensive, 46 percent want it to run at 4G speeds, 45 percent want a larger screen, and 42 percent want an improved camera.

My wife may very well be one of those iPhone 5 buyers. Her current phone is a 5 year old basic unit on Sprint.

I work for HP and will unfortunately have a Pre shoved down my throat.

I've opted to hold out for the iPhone 5 since I waited so long to upgrade from my iPhone 3G (!). I'm sold so far on iOS 5 alone, but I do want to see what's added to the new iPhone first. Ultimately, I'll upgrade to a device with 32 GB, so we'll see what's offered when the 5 is released.

My iPhone 4 is a really good phone. My Girl friend has a Nexus s and its nothing next to the iPhone in my eyes, No one i have met has pulled out a phone that has made me go wow i need that or apple need to update this iPhone now.

So far i am happy to sit back and know that when the iPhone comes out it will kick butt, ios5 is going to add so much to the iPhone i don't know what more an hardware upgrade could add that i carnt happily live without

I am getting tired of waiting. Bought my wife an iPhone 4 for Christmas last year. We decided to wait until the June Refresh for mine. Now I have to wait for Fall. If they released it right now, I'd buy it tomorrow. If there isn't a public release date by October 1st, I'll get an iPhone 4 or Android because I simply am not going to wait any longer than that.

I, too, am ready to abandon the Android ship for iPhone.

My main issue with Android is the fragmentation! There are many handsets out there that still don't support the Netflix App! Some people may suggest that I should check XDA developer, but frankly I don't believe I should pay $$ and at the same time trouble shoot my phone. In other notes, I have a HTC handset and I'm very disappointed with the customer service I received from HTC; also my battery life is very bad, and the fact that I don't get the annual updates (which Google claims that don't require any hardware requirements) just makes it an unpleasant experience.

I am looking for something that gives me reliability, which also works out the box without requirements for tweaking (not that I don't know how to, but because as a grad school student I have no time to spare). :)

If apple decides to put a qwerty and give one to tmobile I'm definitely there. I love my g2 but that's the only thing that would make me switch.

Unless 35% of customers are phones, there is no way they will "be" an iPhone 5.

Be ≠ Buy (though I'll happily buy when it arrives).
