iPhone 5 reportedly slated for early October launch

According to BGR, an AT&T Vice President is telling employees to be prepared for an early October launch of the iPhone 5. Jim Dalyrymple of The Loop adds credibility to this rumor by replying with a simple "yep". This October date has been thrown around recently and fits in nicely with Apple's usual fall iTunes launch event. So until we hear anything more, we'll assume the iPhone 5 could be announced during a September event and possibly made available in early October.

@rook I am with you on this one. I almost broke down and got that new Samsung Galaxy because I was tired of waiting on an iPhone 5; even with having an iPhone 4. However, I will be able to sell my iPhone 4 and buy an iPhone 5 and end up with a few extra bucks in my pocket. Each year, Apple pays me to have a brand new phone. It cost me $600 initially ($500 if you take out that $100 gift card), but I have a brand new phone each year that I absolutely love. I am completely spoiled by Apple and am sure that I would not have been as happy with an Android phone. I think a lot of people would be int eh same boat, but I hear you, 15 months is way too long to wait for a new phone.

It's sad but true, us tech junkies just can't go this long without having a cool new toy! That's where the phone companies win. They know we don't want to wait two whole years to get a new phone and sign up for yet another two year contract, so we buy them at full retail price.

I think this is the most accurate rumor yet. Beta 6 just came out, it's nearing its end as a Beta in late August. GM version will go live end of August/Early September. Apple sends out invitation for an announcement in mid-September. Two weeks later, iPhone 5 launch day in early October.

Although I've been waiting for the iPhone 5 impatiently now ever since I decided to skip out on the iPhone 4 and hang in there with my 3GS, after all the rumors and dates, the lack of any real information over the summer and now a firm date of October (another two months from now) I'm about ready to throw in the towel.

I know it will be the best phone and that I'll want one when it finally comes out. I know they're going to sell every one they can make and then some. Yet I also know that by waiting a year and a half between hardware iterations I'm sure a lot of people have gone android that shouldn't/wouldn't have. It's just too long a gap between releases in 2011.

I've never commented on an iPhone post (or any for that matter) and probably never will again. To those in the tech community that have kept the candle burning so long, I salute you. Personally though, if I didn't already have a million apps, fully developed iTunes and iPhoto libraries, an iPad and a MacBook pro I would have gotten a different phone by now (for better or worse). As it stands I'm over the iPhone 5 before it ever shows up, and that's just a little bit sad.

But you skipped out on the iPhone 4. You've waited even longer than those who got one so no wonder you are ready to "throw in the towel." If anything, you never should have skipped the iPhone 4. I got one on launch day so I've waited the full year and half by now but, to be honest, it's still a nice handset. I think we're all antsy for a new one because we expect it and feel like we deserve it. But all in all, the iPhone 4 is a great device in and of itself on its own merit. That said, can't wait for the 5 ;)

You're absolutely right, if I could go back in time I'd have gotten an iPhone 4 on launch day, or by Christmas or in February but instead I got caught in the "it's just a little bit longer" trap.

Also, (and I'm sure you've heard this from others) you've waited this long so why not wait til October. Hell, even end of 2011. I mean, there's no way Apple isn't going to launch a new phone this year. They definitely will.

I've been tempted by the Nexus S and now the Prime is coming out around October, supposedly... also tempting but given that you and I appreciate Apple's products and are into the ecosystem, it makes more sense to hold out for the iPhone 5 as first choice.

I actually am an iPhone lover but i couldnt continue waiting so opened my wallet and picked me up a Samsung Galaxy S2 unlocked from Amazon. Now!!!! Even though never been an Android fan i could honestly tell you this phone rocks. The 4.3" screen and 4G option its just perfect. I am excited for the new iPhone but unless its a minimum 4" screen and maybe 4G I wont buy one this year. I wish Jobs would change his mind about the screen size. One thing though. Aint no other phone out there that can sell for $475 mind you the 16Gb 15+ months old :). So with that being said, Im totally excited for the announcement of the new iPhone and possibly shell out some more money for the next one since i have 3 upgrades available.
