iPhone prototype N94 leaked, possibly to be an iPhone 4S

There are lots of crazy rumors flying around about the new iPhone announcement coming later on this year (or as soon as next month), but this is one of the more credible. The picture above comes from a site called UbreakIfix through our friends at Engadget, and purports to show a prototype for the iPhone called the N94. It's a long story (which you can click through to read yourself), but essentially, the latest rumor says that this device is the latest testing version of what may become an "iPhone 4S," a slightly cheaper version of the iPhone 4 set to be introduced right alongside the iPhone 5.
Of course, these are all still rumors, and Engadget admits the timing isn't quite right on this one -- this is apparently an "Engineering Verification Test" piece from last March, which makes it older than some of the other prototypes that have reportedly leaked out. It's unknown whether this is the real thing or just another test unit.
But the wheels are clearly in motion on a new iPhone. And if the rumors play out as predicted later on next month, we might see not one but two new iPhones available for purchase.

Please stop saying 4S. It will be the 5, or some non-number.
iPhone = 1st
iPhone 3G = 2nd
iPhone 3GS = 3rd
iPhone 4 = 4th
If they use iPhone 4S for the 2011 model then they can't use 5 later because it will be the sixth, and consumers would be confused it if went from 4 to 6. Also, why does everyone assume that the bargain phone will not just be exactly what the iPhone 4 is now? The bargain phone now is the 3GS, they didn't go and make a different model, they just kept making the old one.
I'm pretty sure the iPhone 4 that was released was code-named N95. This is probably an unreleased prototype for an earlier variation on the iPhone 4.

Apple didn't call the 3GS a 3GS because it was only a slightly upgraded 3G, but because it was the third iPhone and they very well couldn't call it the iPhone 3 because then people would be confused about whether the 3 or 3G was the better model. But simply adding a letter, making it 3GS, eliminated that confusion. They should have called the 3G the iPhone 2, technically.

There was something about the iPhone 4 that I never found pretty. Sure, from an artistic standpoint its very pretty, but it overall was not a phone that I felt contoured to the hand. I loved the way the 3gs, and 3g felt. It was just perfect when I had one. I guess I'll have to wait and see.
