You're the Pundit: When will iOS 5 debut?
Other sites have rumors and speculation. We have the TUAW braintrust. We put the question to you and let you have your go at it. Today's topic is iOS 5. When exactly will this new firmware launch?
So far, Apple has shipped seven iOS 5 betas. Will we see an eighth or ninth beta? Or is it time for the Gold Master release candidate? And if so, how long until iOS debuts and is distributed to consumers? Will it be in synchrony with a new iPhone?
You tell us. Place your vote in this poll and then join in the comments with all your predictions.
| Almost immediately. That baby is ready to ship. | |
|---|---|
| Apple hasn\'t even released a Gold Master yet. At least two weeks from now. Say around the 23rd. | |
| You have to give Apple Reviewers time to start looking at iOS 5 items for App Store. No earlier than the end of the month. | |
| Apple is going to sit on iOS 5 into October so it can launch at the same time as the new iPhone. | |
| Something else. I will tell you in the comments. |

Not only has it not gone GM yet, but even after it does, Apple will need to make the announcement telling developers to start delivering their apps for review for iOS 5 launch. When that happens we'll be 2 weeks away. Seeing as how a GM isn't out yet, my guess is at least 4 weeks from now or more depending on the GM release.

Right around the 23rd is my guess.

I'm completely over IOS5. Too little too late.

September 12 2011 at 6:22 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyiOS 5 isn't finished yet. There's at least one more beta out or the GM and then they will launch it. Why? Some camera bugs are still there and some of the core apps have problems with Twitter integration. Apple isn't the type of company that just lets errors before the GM. I say Early September event to announce the GM.

September 12 2011 at 4:03 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI think they will hold an event on Sept 23rd to announce IP5, and release iOS5 GM, then on Oct 7th iPhone 5 will ship, along with iOS5

They will be holding back some functions in iOS 5 to announce with the iPhone 5 announcement, they will then release another developer version with those new features for last minute testing before releasing the Gold Master. Then they will not release iOS 5 until about the same time as the new iPhone goes on sale which will be a few weeks after announcing it and the new features for iOS 5.
September 12 2011 at 12:40 PM Report abuse Permalink -1 rate up rate down ReplyIf they release beta 7, it'll be the biggest fail since vista. Or, by the looks of the bugs and problems, since Lion.
B7 isn't ready. The whole thing is a way off. I'd go with late Sept.
Today is the 12th, since when would late September be way off? That's like 2 weeks and considering there is no Gold master yet, that would be FAST, not way off. Your perception of time is very strange.
