Apple special event forecast for October 4

The sense of something coming soon grows stronger, as AllThingsD cites "sources close to the situation" saying that Apple's next media event will be held October 4. The hypothetical event, for which no invitations have yet been issued, would presumably be the venue where the next generation of the iPhone is announced to the world. Those same or similar sources also told ATD's John Paczkowski that the new phone would ship several weeks after the event.

As important as the iPhone announcement is to Apple's performance over the next year, the host of the event is equally important. ATD says, unsurprisingly, that Tim Cook will be presiding over the announcement presentation. The newly promoted CEO will have some big shoes to fill on the presentation side, but no word yet whether he's planning to don the ceremonial black sweater.

We judge this report largely credible; it correlates with the dates that have been bandied about, and ATD usually has good sources (some via the elder statesman of the tech beat, Uncle Walt Mossberg). Mark your calendars.

This is the crap that gives fAndroids their ammunition, you're begging for it.

New rule, Napoleon Dynamite is dead, I'm sorry, but you can't revive the lines from that movie. If your funny line requires that you reference the movie it's from by using something like that crap show you displayed in parentheses, go back to the drawing board, friend.

Reciting movie lines is a lot like the value of a car, after it's be on the road for a year or so the value drops and will continue to drop for 20-years or so, after that it can be considered a collectible and may begin to regain its lost value. Knock yourself out with anything pre-1991, Bill Murray movies alone can keep you well stocked with funny one-liners for the next decade, if you're not feeling retro, don't use anything older than last summer's theatrical releases, sequels are rarely acceptable, so no Hangover 2, I know, it's cruel, I'm sorry.

Just so you know, I'm not mean, you're probably pretty cool, we both love Apple stuff, yadda yadda (Seinfeld type)....
...you see what I mean now, right? the yadda yadda needs no explanation, those who don't get it don't need to get it, it becomes irrelevant the moment I begin explaining it. Imagine if every comedian had to explain every single joke to the audience, nobody wants to be a member of that audience here, and you don't want to be that comedian.

It would seem that this time around ATT will not be allowing early upgrades as they have in the past.
