Verizon says Apple's injunction against Samsung will harm consumers

Apple is currently seeking an injunction that would the ban the sale of select Samsung devices in the US. Verizon has stood against Apple and publicly supported Samsung with its statement that an injunction against Samsung "will harm Verizon Wireless and US consumers."

The wireless carrier also argues that an injunction could slow the deployment of its 4G LTE network, a situation that goes against the government's National Broadband Plan. Apple has not responded to this statement and the other wireless carriers have not said whether they will also take sides in this case.

A major legal battle between Samsung and Apple is being waged in the US and in other countries around the world. In Germany, Apple has successfully blocked Samsung from selling its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet. A similar lawsuit is still pending in Japan and Australia where sales of the Galaxy Tab are on hold. The next hearing in the US case is expected to occur on October 13.

You know what else harms the consumer? Not giving phones away for free. Make Apple give the iPhone away for free.

I'm just impressed that Verizon is so concerned about the consumers. This seems to be a major change in their philosophy and worthy of a story all by itself...

A questionable move on Verizon's part and one which may keep me from recommending Verizon in the future. I like Sprint's CEO, Dan Hesse. He appears to combine integrity and guts.

Verizon gets ALOT more $ from Samsung for carrying its lineup versus Apple's premium.
And Verizon is one to talk (pun) about harming customers: charges for texting plans, forcing data plans, increasing ETF (so much for buying new phones sooner), odd collusion in pricing between other carriers (competition??), no rollover minutes, horrible customer service (billing), 9-5p billing hours (phones service runs 24/7 and yet billing is 8:30-5:30..., and then there are all those taxes and subsidies... yeah... Who is REALLY harming consumers but the (still on DSL) telco industry...

Well, not sure about that Verizon making mo' money on Samsung mobile devices.

Verizon is probably more interested in getting some return on their $60+ *BILLION* investment on LTE technology ($9+B in spectrum license alone).

Hmmm. Sounds like they must have a better deal with Samsung then they do with Apple to make this type of statement. I don't think this hurts the consumer at all since the Samsung products look so much like what they are stealing from. If the Samsung products were truly something different then I would feel differently. There are also a ton of Android products already out there.

Of course Verizon would be all over this if it were ATT stealing their patents. Verizon... mind your own business or you can count me and others as one customer less.

The ban in Germany isn't a permanent ban, it's a preliminary injunction. They are banned from selling until the end of the case.

I disagree. Allowing consumers to buy lousy Android tablets is harmful to consumers.
(I'm just kidding, don't get upset).
