Apple Store is down, iPhone 4S preorders begin 12:01 A.M. Pacific

The show must go on... and Apple's famous sticky note has appeared on cue. The online Apple Store is down in preparation for preorders for the iPhone 4S, which will commence at 12:01 A.M. Pacific time. Those of you who are eagerly awaiting preorders for the latest iPhone had better still be awake by then, because if history is any guide Apple will burn through the first wave of preorders before the sun comes up.

Update: The Store is back up after a delay of nearly 40 minutes. Pre-orders have begun. If you were like me and hoping to snag an unlocked model, you're out of luck until November.

I was successful in my order just now. I was able to renew my iPhone contract with a white AT&T 16 GB model. I was getting a few "Oops!" errors, but I just kept trying. After 10 minutes all was complete, my credit card shows the pending charge and I just received my order acknowledgement email.

I can't seem to review the order right now, but I'm pretty sure that it is confirmed now that I have the email and my card has the pending charge.

Success on the ATT website. Could not add a line to the family plan, so had to create a new account. ATT chat is working, if slow, and the rep said I'll be able to consolidate with my family plan at time of activation, through customer service. I'll bet I get to be on hold for an hour for that, too.
Also, even though I have a confirmation number, fine print says my order can be delayed for many reasons, including "inventory," or, I assume, lack thereof. So there's that to look forward to.

I was able to get on ATT website, but had to place a new order rather than add a line to my family plan. ATT chat is working--but slow. Rep told me I can add it to my family plan and remove the new account at activation by calling customer service. I'll bet I'll be on hold for an hour for that, too.
Also, fine print says that even though I have a confirmation number, "Your shipment may be subject to delays for reasons that include, but are not limited to, product availability, inventory,..."
So there's that to look forward to.

I have one Reservation number. And it won't let me place another order, saying I already placed the order. So....I am going to bed!

Download "ATT Upgrader" app on iPhone app store. (couldn't get it on iPad or iMac) . took about 3 minutes and I received an immediate confirmation email and order #. Advise all to try this as I spent last 1.5 hr with all of above pbms.
