Customers begin to receive iPhone 4S shipment notices

The excitement surrounding the iPhone 4S continues to build now that pre-order customers are receiving shipping notices. Customers, particularly those on Sprint, are receiving shipping confirmation notices from UPS that their packages are being processed. Most packages are being shipped 2nd day air, but don't expect your iPhone 4S to arrive earlier than the 14th. In the past, UPS's policy was to hold Apple shipments at the local warehouse until the set delivery date (though a few may slip through). Even if you beg and plead for the packages at the warehouse, UPS will not release them until the designated time.
It'll be a long week of waiting and checking on UPS status updates for those with pre-ordered iPhone 4S handsets, but you should be able to rest easy knowing that you don't have to camp out

October 10 2011 at 1:23 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIs it just me, or does it seem as though the "default" color of the iPhone 4S is white instead of black. I seem to be seeing a lot of pictures of the white one instead of black like all other iPhones.

And to support my OCD when I'm away, they have an RSS feed for my package that I'll have my feed reader send push alerts on.
Friday can't come soon enough.
I was never able to get through on Apple's site during the wee hours of Oct. 7, so I ended up pre-ordering from AT&T.
I checked my order status today and it showed "Back Ordered" as the ship date status.
Below is the response I received from AT&T online customer chat:
"I do apologize for this "backorder" status. I can assure you that your oder is still in progress. Due to the massive influx of iPhone pre-orders, our warehouse is currently out of stock, causing this "backorder" status. However, we are in the process of filling our warehouse with more iPhone 4S devices. As soon as they come in your order will be processed as usual and your expected shipping date will not change."
I like that she used quotes around "backorder", and that she said the expected shipping date WILL note change. Here's hoping she's correct. We'll see.
To judge past experience: Did anyone order online through AT&T when the iPhone 4 pre-ordered? And did you get it on the launch date?
For the iPhone 4 launch, many pre-orders were delivered the day prior (so Thursday instead of Friday). I was one of those. Hopefully they'll do it again to take load off the activation servers.
October 10 2011 at 12:21 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'm going out of town on Friday afternoon. I REALLY hope the delivery comes sooner in the day rather than later. I suppose the plus side is that since it will come with iOS 5 installed, I could grab it as a I walk out the door and remotely activate the phone and restore from iCloud from the road without having to sync with my computer, as I would have done before iOS 5. If it works as well in reality as it should in theory, that could be a huge convenience factor.
