Facebook for iPad out now

TechCrunch and a few other sites are posting that the Facebook iPad app has finally arrived on the App Store. I don't quite see it on the store yet, but the news has apparently dropped according to a schedule run by Facebook itself, so the app should follow soon. The app looks ... about like you'd expect a Facebook iPad app to look, with a sidebar available in landscape mode, and a dropdown menu to browse the various sections in portrait mode.

One of the biggest features of the new app is integration with other apps -- apparently the app can send you directly to other apps on your iPad when you browse to them from a friend's status or news post. For example, if you read about a Words with Friends move on a friend's status, you can click a link on that post, and be sent right out to the iPad version of Words with Friends (or, if you don't have it installed, you'll get sent to the App Store app to download it). That will help developers a lot with connecting users up on their various platforms.

At any rate, as soon as it shows up in the App Store, we'll give the app a full runthrough and let you know what we think. As soon as we see a link, we'll update this post with it.

Update: Here's a link! Enjoy.

Uninstalling and re-downloading the app solved my crashing problems as well.

dowload updated iPhone app onto iPad and it works as the new iPad app. For some reason it doesn't appear in iTunes under iPad.

For anyone having issues with the app immediately crashing every time it's opened, try uninstalling and re-downloading the app. That seemed to work for me on an iPad 2 running jailbroken iOS 4.3.3.

You can access the app by clicking the iPhone app on your iPad, it will automatically format into the iPad version.

While I am glad the app is finally out, it's somewhat underwhelming. It's more or less what we all expected, merely bringing iPhone-like experience to iPad, with sidebar for browsing to other section. I was hoping to see some innovation.

It's there. It's just not showing up in the iPad section, but if you pull up the iPhone app, it confirms that it's a universal app.

Searching for facebook in the app store showed no iPad app but did show an update for the iPhone app I already had installed (which didn't show up in the updates tab in the app store). Once updated it launched as a full iPad app, so that was how I found it.

Downloading now. Does not appear to be a new app, but rather the iPhone app updated to a Universal app, which is to be expected given that the code has already been spotted in the iPhone app.
