iPhone 4S 8-Megapixel photo looks incredible

iPhone-toting photographers like myself are drooling at the thought of the 8-Megapixel camera and five-element f/2.4 lens built into the iPhone 4S. We've seen photos from Apple already, but now the devious minds at AppVV.com (who apparently have their hands on an iPhone 4S) have taken a photo with the iPhone 4S camera to show us just how good the resolution is.
The image has dimensions of 3264 x 2448 pixels, larger (of course) than the iPhone 4's photo size of 2592 x 1936 pixels. While iPhone 4 photos quite often appear grainy at full resolution, the iPhone 4S image seen here is remarkably sharp.
I can't wait to start seeing some of the photographs that will be taken with the new camera later this week.

what i'd like to see is a side to side comparison of iphone 4 and 4s pictures.

so this is not sure to be taken from an iPhone 4S.
Does anyone know if the HDR feature is still there?
October 10 2011 at 9:35 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAnyone else like me see much improved white balance in average light?
October 10 2011 at 8:03 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIs it possible to control the aperture so that you can get the depth of field you need, or does the camera force you to live with automatic settings? With an aperture of f/2.4, I imagine many otherwise fantastic photos will be slightly marred by having part of the image unintentionally out of focus, as is the case with the top of this dollar.
At any rate, this is a superb image for a camera phone.
can't wait! going on a cross country trip from SF to DC in a couple weeks and this will definitely see some action :)
October 10 2011 at 6:50 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI still don't think that a better camera and Siri alone are enough to get me to budge on the iPhone 4S. The camera (plus software) on the iPhone 4 is still one of the best, most consistent quality camera you can find in a phone. Over 15 months since its launch, it's still tough to point out any phone with a camera that's comparable in low-light scenarios and the easy-of-use in its software.
A better camera is always welcome, but *all* of these features will also be available in the next iPhone as well. I'm holding off my upgrade until next year, even though I'm technically out of contract right now.
I see no reason to upgrade either....I also think siri is kind of dumb -- but that's just me.
As for cameras, that's an easy one. The nokia N8 is probably the best camera on a phone ever released - it owns any other phone's camera due to two things -- 1.) Carl zeiss optics, and 2.) of course -- a Xenon flash -- the rest of the phone's software is not that good (It's symbian ffs -- dying \ dead platform), but the camera simply owns all else ^_^ I know I haven't used the 4s yet, but it's safe to say that the N8 still owns it due to having a xenon flash.
i dont think the phone is meant for you to upgrade. Apple, I believe, does a 2 year full refresh. So the 4S upgrade is great for those people that held off on purchasing a 4 or weren't eligible for upgrade then. Now they have a new faster device with a much better camera and facetime! win! apple isnt expecting iPhone 4 purchasers to upgrade to the 4S. Some will, but not most. However all those 3GS customers will welcome this update. Even on Android or other platforms, just because they release a new device, they expect new customers to buy, not existing ones that just purchased 12-14 months ago.
October 11 2011 at 12:02 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyExactly! I'm a 3GS user that will very much enjoy this upgrade. My camera is bad enough to be relegated to the role of taking pictures of price tags, etc - utility shots only - and I end up carrying my 'real' camera around an awful lot. Looking forward to Friday!
October 11 2011 at 10:41 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate downI'm getting mine on Friday and going to Disney World the very next week. I'm very excited about the photo opportunities I'll have with the new camera (upgrading from 3GS).
October 10 2011 at 6:06 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI just got back from Disney World. In fact, I ordered my 4gs while I was there. Sure wish I had the 4gs there with me instead of the 3GS I did have.
October 11 2011 at 1:31 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHoly cow...that's one crisp looking dollar bill! Can't wait to get my hands on a 4S this Friday. The camera upgrade, together with Siri are my reasons for upgrading from my (still) great iPhone 4!
October 10 2011 at 5:45 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyDunno, looks bit blurry in some places. Thought there is some anti-shake built-in or is it for video only?
