iCloud homepage is now live (updated)

Apple has unveiled the new iCloud homepage as of early this morning. Some users have reported that they were not able to access the iCloud service as of yet, but I was able to log in and navigate among the different apps. This could very well be a fluke, but the homepage does give iCloud users a sneak peek at the main layout of the site.

Not all of the features are enabled yet, mostly the iWork apps because they require an update to the iOS apps that hasn't been pushed out yet. We will have an in-depth look at iCloud as the day goes on and more people are allowed to access the service.

Update (3:30 a.m. ET): Some MobileMe users are saying that they are unable to access the migration feature as of yet.

I'm able to access the features, but I'm having a difficult time getting it to work with Outlook 2010. I can not seem to connect to Apple's servers for anything for email, but the contacts and calendar apps are working well.

It's strange that Apple rolled this out as a free service. For one, it's another easy option for unscrupulous people to get free e-mail addresses. A nominal fee would have been better in my opinion and may have eased the issues of yesterday's release. The mail side of it was shocking.

I really love my @me.com mail name, yet I use another Apple ID for purchases, and it is really stupid that I can't migrate to iCloud and keep my old @me.com, this "no-merging" policy is one of the most frustrating experiences I've had with Apple.

I whole heartily agree. I had a MobileMe account and they gave me a free 20GB iCloud account for a year because my MobileMe account wasn't expired yet so now I have 25GB of iCoud space I can't use because I can't merge my accounts...

Won't work on PC.

And in "itune in the cloud", some songs which I brought recently from i-tune (by Los Indios Tabajaras) could not be shared among my laptops and desktops. I have to go back to the good old thumb drive to transfer the album. Other songs seem OK.

For cloud storage, Microsoft's sky drive is a lot cheaper, 25 G is free.

I can't logon to iCloud becuse my Apple ID is not an email address. If I create a new Apple ID based on my email address I loose all my purchase history. How can I merge the accounts?

I don't think this has really gone live for normal use. I thin they put it out there for basic gold testing. I wouldn't be surprised if this all works fine come 1pm Eastern.

The support (Learn More) link in the silver popup box (after you sign in, at the top) is broken.

They will probably fix this when they official launch.
