iPhone 4S launch: Apple Store 5th Avenue, linewalk

As per standard operating procedure for iOS product launches, this morning's iPhone 4S introduction found the line at the Apple flagship store in New York City around the block -- or in this case, around the corner. It was a much smaller crowd than for the iPad 2 launch, but that product didn't have a pre-order option so there was more cause to queue up.

You can see a 2 minute linewalk video below, or check out our gallery of snapshots here.

I pre-ordered last week with At&T. I thought it is vip to pre-ordered because you have already paid with your credit card.I checked email for update my delivery status. First time say Its delivery around Oct 13, 2011. the second email say the same. I checked on Oct 13,2011 It will delivery 14-21 days. First come first serve. What? Why do they have pre-ordered for what. It is non-sense. So terrible pre-ordered it should be exclusive.
It's very disappointed.

I'm sorry, I am an iPhone user, I love it, great device made for amazing, intelligent and smart people, but....waiting in line doesn't seem very smart, why not wait to get another day? what's the difference? Be the first one? why? Just silly...It's not like it's a complete new device, it does pretty much the 4 does. Siri? Who is ever going to use it? I don't even use what I have now to make a call...I don't get it.

I can't activate my iPhone 4S (AT&T). Are there others having the same problem? Any troubleshooting steps I can take?

Not surprisingly, AT&T seems to be having a problem registering my new phone. Waiting for those schmucks to tell me I can play with my new toy.

I wonder if its too late to switch to Verizon.

might it also have something to do with the fact that the iPad 2 launched at 5PM? much more time for people to queue up, after work etc. Plus I'm sure the pre-order thing got a lot of people questioning whether they wanted to bother with the lines this year.
