Sprint reports 'best day ever' of sales with iPhone 4S launch

I'll have to admit, I thought the public's demand for the iPhone had been more or less sated, and adding yet another carrier to the handset wouldn't be as big a deal as it has been in the past. It's definitely a bigger deal than I expected. Wasting no time, Sprint has proudly trumpeted that it experienced its "best ever day of sales in retail, web and telesales for a device family in Sprint history" on Friday, thanks to the iPhone 4S launch and the iPhone 4. In fact, the company says it hit the milestone at noon Central Standard Time, which means today beat some records in that company and then some.
Not only does it mean people are still turning out in swarms to buy the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 4, it also means getting the iPhone on a network is still a really huge deal -- basically the biggest deal going in the cell phone industry lately. You could argue that much of AT&T's success in the past few years has been based on the iPhone, and obviously Verizon fought for a long time to be able to sell the iPhone on its network. But even Sprint, in third place among the networks, is breaking records with Apple's handset. The iPhone's reign of sales and domination in the cell phone game is far from over.

Well, the iPhone didn't have a huge impact on Verizon - but I think this is because Verizon is already so huge. Sprint is the underdog in the race, and something like the iPhone coming to their network is a REALLY big deal for them. I bought stock. ...did you?

Now we are going to see what really happens when the iPhone is on more than one carrier. I'll bet that market share seriously changes by the end of this quarter.
October 15 2011 at 11:37 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySprint is giving the worst customer service. I ordered a new iphone from sprint. They shipped it to my billing address. I have spent 3 days trying to get assistance to change the address before the delivery. No one could help me until UPS tried to deliver it to the wrong address. So patiently I waited until this happened. Now after 45 minutes with three associates who keep giving new answers. The frustrating thing is no one seems to care, No one knows how to solve this problem and It is near impossible to get through the phone tree system.. I have sent emails to customer service and no response after 2 days.. Anyone have any ideas to how to get some help?
October 15 2011 at 10:51 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI received mine on Friday via UPS and after owning an iPhone 4 for the last 15 months, I thought that I would be somewhat underwhelmed. I was patently incorrect.
The difference in speed, the camera and Siri make the parade decidedly worth thre money. And the "fix" for the proximity sensor puts an end to over a year of accidental in-conversation phone calls and unwanted additions to my contacts. And as it's now available in a 64 GB capacity, I'm going to try only taking only this device with me on my vacation, instead of bringing the phone as well as a camera and video camera.
I don't understand why T-Mobile users are still left "out in the cold" regarding the iPhone, specifically since there are so many T-Mobile users who are already using the iPhone at a much slower network-speed. This would also be a shot across the bow of the jail-break community as it would lessen the number of people who flat-out NEED to jail-break.
I can understand why Sprint had such a great sales day...
I do believe that Apple approached Verizon with the original iPhone in 2007 first. But Verizon would not give in to Apple's demands to control the phone OS updates, etc. Apple was not willing to relinquish control like all other cellular manufacturers including every last Android phone. Everyone with at least an iPhone 3GS had the opportunity to run iOS 5 when it became available last Wed. Only the original iPhone and the 3G were left out as they are obsolete and cannot run the new iOS 5. So Apple went to AT&T and still had to negotiate quite a bit, AT&T took a risk and made out like bandits with an exclusive contract to carry the iPhone. The contract was likely meant to sweeten the deal so AT&T would finally agree to Apple's other terms. Once AT&T posted their numbers Verizon started begging for a CDMA phone. Then Sprint as well. Both were losing customers to AT&T in large numbers.
