iPhone 4S users complain of yellowish display tint

Some iPhone 4S users are reporting their screen has a yellowish tint. The tinting problem supposedly affects the whole display and gives everything a washed out appearance when compared to the iPhone 4. This is apparently different from the yellow tinting problem of the iPhone 4 which appeared as yellow blotches on the screen. The iPhone 4's problem was caused by glue used in the manufacturing process and went away once the glue dried.

Customers on Apple support forums are actively discussing the current issue, which appears to affect the black models more than the white; though some white models still have it. Many suggest this is the result of using more than one screen manufacturer. One of the manufacturers may be producing a lower quality display.

This is not the first time an Apple product has been plagued with display issues. Late 2009 iMac models reportedly suffered from yellow screen tint and flickering issues. Earlier this year, iPad 2 supply was supposedly constrained due to a light bleed issue caused by their LG-manufactured displays.

ugh, not another ____gate. I swear, one person makes a legit complaint and then a million others imagine theirs is afflicted too. Just give it a few days to settle in and 99% of the issues will go away, either by the screen breaking in or your eyes adjusting. If you really have a defective iPhone, take it back and they'll swap it out. A slightly warmer screen isn't defective, though.

I don't want to pass judgment based on one photo, but to me the "yellower" one looks more like true white, and the other looks too blue.

Didn't people complain of exactly the same thing when the iPhone 4 came out? If I remember correctly, the yellow faded after a few days and was to do with the manufacturing process?

To me it looks like the colour temperature is just different? It looks warmer. I always thought the iPhone 4 screen was too cold.

Just like the iPad 2 problem -- I Went through 5 ipad 2's before I finally gave up.
They are using crap quality displays from LG and Samsung -- that's why.

My iPhone 3GS had a washed out/yellowish hue which drove me crazy. I won't upgrade to the 4s until this has been resolved.

I can only compare my white 3GS to my white 4S, and all I can say is that the 3GS suffers from a blue tint, not unlike the screen shot at the top. Therefore, I don't think the 4S is the problem. Now, if only I could use the SpyderGallery app and my Spyder calibrator with the iP4S -- works very well with the iPad.

From what I remember, wasn't the problem because of the glue used to secure the screen on the device? And the whole problem went away after a week or two.
