Get Jetpack Joyride for free from Apple via Facebook

I've never heard of a deal like this, but we'll take it anyway. Halfbrick's great game Jetpack Joyride (one of the best iOS games of the year, honestly), is being given away for free by none other than Apple. You have to be a Facebook member, but if you 'like' Apple's official App Store Facebook page, you can get a code that will nab you a free copy of the game from the App Store.

The one catch is that you have to essentially allow Apple access to your information on Facebook, but all it's asking for is to have that information (which might be public on your profile anyway, depending on your settings). It's worth nothing that the company doesn't ask for the right to post things on your profile, though those concerned about that probably won't take the deal anyway.

At any rate, as long as you're OK with seeing your name attached to Apple on Facebook (and this is an official Apple account), you can get a free Jetpack Joyride code! Enjoy.

This bothers me. It bothers me in the same way that the anti-slavery, anti-trafficking-in-persons app "Free World" requires you to log in via Facebook in order to use it.

I had a Facebook account, and then I quit over a year ago. It's nothing I'm going to pontificate or proselytize about. It was a personal choice to not even reduce usage to the reason I signed up: to post pictures. For me, just going in and making sure my security settings were set right after a new "update" was becoming one more management headache.

It's not that I won't get a free app. It'll be interesting to see what Apple does marketing-wise with all the "likes" they get by bribing people with mind candy. And the author's attitude in this article is equally disturbing. "All they're asking for is your information on Facebook, which it might have access to anyway...". That's not disturbing, is it?

At some point the social media bubble is going to burst. And when all the investors begin to jump like rats on a sinking ship, the last thing these social media outlets will have to recover their losses is a huge database of personal information to sell. Paranoid? Maybe. But, enough personal information gets lost due to negligence. I guess I don't see the need to be a willing victim so I can get a free app or a coupon to Taco Bell. It's not like a big information company would do something like that, right? AOL, anyone?

I can't stand when companies have promotions or contests where you have to use Facebook to access it. Fortunately I already have Jetpack Joyride but it's been happening a lot lately where companies tie their promotions closely to use of Facebook. Especially stupid are the "once so many people 'Like' our FB page we'll unlock the next tier in the sweepstakes" things.

Downloaded it on my Mac just now. Couldn't see it on Facebook on my iPhone so assumed it was a US only offer but no there is a freebie for us in the UK too!

Doesn't work. Facebook says the content has either expired or is not accessible

I got this today. Pretty awesome. PvZ and Civ Revolutions is also on sale for .99 at the moment. Pretty decent deal, if I do say so myself.
