iOS 5.0.1 For iPhone, iPad, iPod touch can be jailbroken with Redsn0w

For the jailbreakers among you, you'll be happy to hear that iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch can indeed be jailbroken with Redsn0w. RedmondPie has tested and confirmed that Apple's latest version of iOS 5 can be tether-jailbreaked by using the latest version of Redsn0w. Redmond does note that the "SemiTether" patch continues to work, but iOS 5.0.1 "will not function to a satisfactory degree" on devices using SemiTether until users connect to Redsn0w on a Mac or PC.
Jailbreaking is best left to the more experienced, tech-savvy users, but if you're feeling adventurous, RedmondPie has all the details on how to jailbreak your Apple device running the very latest iOS release.

It should be noted that while it does work, Charlie Miller's code signing exploit is the current best hope for an untethered jailbreak, so the last I heard yesterday was that people should stay on iOS 5.0 if at all possible if they want a chance to go untethered in the near future.

Really? As opposed to 'jailbroken'? That's REALLY what you're going with??
Hey,
you guys should really hang out on #iphone or #chronic-dev. There has been a new release from the chronic dev team. GreenPoison 2. Untetherd for everything. 4s/ipad2 supported.

Looks like link spam to me. The official site doesn't have a 2 in it.

November 13 2011 at 11:37 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyEverybody should jailbreak for the ease of use and functionality provided by InfiniFolders and SBSettings; the former removes the braindead 12 app limit on folders, and the latter provides quick access to toggle communications settings (3G, data, airplane mode, Bluetooth), adjust brightness controls, volume, and more. Everything else is gravy.
Also, LockDown Pro on my son's 3GS allows me to control what he has access to, as well what settings he can change (or not).
Does anyone know if the gevey unlock method they provide at the end of the linked article is a jailbreak or does it just update the OS without the new BB? I don't really want to have a tethered solution
November 11 2011 at 5:53 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyUnlocking and jailbreaking are two completely different things. Unlocks rely on jailbreaks, not the other way around. As far as Gevey you should ask them, but no their product does not work on 5.x.
November 13 2011 at 11:36 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyGevey works fine with my iPhone 4 and iOS 5.0 - as long as the baseband is at 04.10.01 or before, it will work fine.
November 14 2011 at 11:17 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate downDon't rush to update to 5.0.1. The thinking is an untethered jailbreak will be released for 5.0 before one is found for 5.0.1.
November 11 2011 at 5:29 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMy iPhone 3GS has the early bootrom and the last jailbreakable baseband so I have UNtethered JB.
November 11 2011 at 5:22 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyFor clarification, you don't jailbreak baseband (modem firmware) you unlock it.
