Better Business Bureau lists AT&T as having lowest complaint rate among mobile carriers

Here at TUAW, we still hear plenty of complaints about AT&T's service (many of them actually directed at AT&T, but sent to us for some reason). But the Better Business Bureau says we're actually in a good spot -- AT&T apparently has the lowest amount of complaints from major carriers coming through that agency out of all of the various cell phone service providers. Note that they are referring to major carriers: smaller regional carrier Metro PC actually had the lowest number, but of course they don't service nearly as many people.
Verizon was second best among the major carriers in the US, then Sprint, and T-Mobile brought up the rear, with 26,387 complaints over the last few years. There's good news, though -- data from last year shows that 95% of the complaints to the BBB about wireless issues were actually resolved. So apparently the squeaky wheel does get the grease.
Obviously, there are a lot of factors here -- just because a company does or doesn't get a lot of BBB complaints doesn't necessarily reflect 1:1 on its service. But clearly not many of the people supposedly disappointed with AT&T have gone off to the Better Business Bureau for help.

It would be more meaningful to complain on twitter and facebook, which would at least spread your complaints faster.

The BBB generally doesn't deal with complaints for a service dropping calls unless the vendors response is outrageously bad.

If you call or search the BBB website, you will be able to see the amount of complaints with each criteria such as. billing, warranty, customer Service, billing issues , Delivery and so on.
The BBB is a none profit business, so a business is not required to become a accredited business, it could also me submitted to the BBB system by you or anyone filing a complaint to any business. Becoming a member doesn't me BBB will safe a business, it mean the business is showing consumers that are wheeling to treat their customers with respect and dignity. Among them Sony Electronic. Having the BBB logo on your business mean you will treat your consumers with respect , honesty and integrity.
WTF this must be the opposite results because metro POS and ATT have horrible service
November 12 2011 at 9:45 PM Report abuse Permalink -2 rate up rate down ReplyThe BBB is a scam that extorts money out of businesses under the guise of being a "membership" fee.
There is no benefit to a company being a member. They can only tell a consumer that they are not a member if there is an inquiry. They can also only tell consumers if there are no "unresolved" complaints against them. Would there ever be an unresolved complaint? The BBB is not going to "rat out" one of it's members and lose the membership fee.
Why give the numbers for T-Mobile only? Never mind, forget the why, just please give the numbers for the others too.
November 12 2011 at 6:35 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYeah, AT&T still sucks as much as ever, and as in fact somewhat worse in many regards. But speaking as someone who used to call and complain a lot, I stopped after a while, at least when I realized that nothing I was saying was making damn bit of difference.
Oh, and there used to be a point in which complaining about piss-poor/non-existant data used to net me a credit. Now they just say "yeah, guess nothing we do is good enough... maybe you should just go somewhere else."
The BBB is an business you can pay off to get better ratings and much worse ratings if you don't.
