Sirius XM app adds satellite radio 2.0 support

Sirius XM has pushed out a major update for its iOS apps to include features users have been wanting and that will give competitors like Pandora a bit of a jolt. This app really gives users control of their listening experience, something that satellite radio hasn't had.

Features include:

  • Start Now- starts shows from the beginning even if the program has been on for some minutes
  • Tune Start- starts the currently playing song from the beginning
  • Pause- just what it says. Pause live radio and then restart when it's convenient.
  • Fast Forward/Rewind- move quickly forward and back through any program
  • Show Finder- sets alerts for your favorite programming

In my tests of the app it seemed to work as expected. One thing made me unhappy. The update trashed my user credentials so I had to log in again. It did preserve my favorite channels, however.

So far, this software is iOS only, but it's expected to come to Android sometime next year. If you're a Sirius/SM subscriber grab it, but have your user name and password handy.

Sirius has over 20 Million subscribers so i would say they are "competing" just fine... that said an internet only plan is a "no brainer" that should have happened by now.

So has anyone used this for enough time to tell if they fixed the "Data Connection Lost" and "Logged in Elsewhere" errors? These were so rampant in the last version that we stopped using it at home and switched to Pandora. If a version leap to 2.0 didn't fix it, I'll be dropping this part of my Sirius package for good.

They fixed that in the version previous to this one. But yes, it is fixed.

Nope. And, nope...they didn't fix it in this version, either. Six different networks, as well as 3G...and it still drops due to those errors.

I suffered the same problem once I installed (no upgrade from old version, clean install) the latest version. It worked just fine the first few times, but then went back to not connecting (just giving me a different error).

Back to MusicDock for me.

Sirius has original content, lets see Pandora, Spotify, Slacker, etc compete with that.

Shame we only get the terrible "Sirius" App in Canada. Doesn't even have retina support.

The fact that it costs more $$ per month when I'm already a subscriber is a deal-breaker for me. Not going to pay more just for access on a different device.

Until they figure out a much-cheaper internet-only plan, they will never compete with Pandora, Spotify, Slacker, etc

You can't scrub across the progress slider to move through a track? Boo.

Still, nice feature being able to start a program currently on the air. Managed to jump to the beginning of Opie & Anthony nearly three hours into the replay.

The app still gets killed quickly if you background it. Have to leave it running and prevent screen sleep.
