SpotON Radio app for iPhone out now

Spotify is the über-popular music service that lets you stream a huge library of music to your computer. You can also use the service on your iPhone with a premium subscription, letting you either sync and listen to your own music, or stream Spotify's tracks straight to your mobile device wherever you happen to be.
The service just recently opened up an API for app developers, and a new app called SpotON Radio is one of the first to take full advantage of it. Unfortunately, it requires a premium Spotify subscription to work, but if you have one of those already, SpotON will let you listen to Internet radio stations, your own Spotify playlists, or any other music Spotify offers. The app uses "music intelligence" from Echo Nest for recommendations, and as you can see above, the display is clean and clear, which is always nice.
If you already use the Spotify app on your iPhone, the choice of this one is really up to you -- that Echo Nest integration might offer some different music, and you may prefer the look and feel of this app compared to the official one. If you're interested (and you have the account to go with the app -- unless, like me, you just stick with the free Pandora service), SpotON Radio is free to download right now at launch.
Update: A previous headline on this post stated that Spotify was behind this release. That was a mistake -- the app was produced using Spotify's API, but by a third-party developer.

January 19 2012 at 3:09 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI think the app is awesome, great choice on tracks, but, when I listen to a Radio Station again to discover new music, the thing starts from the beginning and plays the same songs in the same order. What's up with that? I don't mind listening to a song 2 or 3 times but, do I have to press the "not like this" button each time a song is repeated? That's too much interaction. I just want SpotON to decide what tracks to play, just like Pandora. When I play the same station the next day, I don't want to listen to the same tracks again. Please fix this SpotON.

I work at a job where I am constantly listening to music and find my self too lazy to make playlists using Spotify. Between this and ShareMyPlaylist, I will never worry about music again! Technology!!

January 10 2012 at 1:11 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHi there!
You can't access your playlists yourself, but the first radio stations are created based on your Spotify playlists and top artists. Sorry if there's been any confusion around that!

Crashes after I put in my spotify login info, what is wrong???
January 09 2012 at 9:08 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyHi David!
We've heard of one other user that had a similar problem, and we're just in the process of trying to pin-point the issue. Very sorry about the problems, but we're doing our best to sort it out!
You're welcome to follow @SpotON_Radio on Twitter for further conversation and news about updates to the app. We're also on Facebook, of course. http://www.facebook.com/yourspotonradio
Thanks for downloading the app!

Good, I'm always positive to the things that spotify releases. But isn't it time to focus on the big app? The iPad has been missing its native app for a good two years soon, and although it is the works, it's already very late.
January 09 2012 at 6:59 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Reply... and why oh why is there no AirPlay option on a music playing app?
January 09 2012 at 5:07 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyHey Smithy!
First of all, thanks for downloading the app!
SpotON Radio does support AirPlay, but currently only through the iOS "AirPlay mirroring" feature. Double-tap the home button and swipe all the way to the left, and you've got the AirPlay button available there.
We'll be looking at adding the AirPlay button to the music player interface shortly!
Hope you're enjoying the app and that you're getting a better music experience!
Regards,
Kristofer, SpotON Radio developer
AirPlay is built in for all media audio across every application. Double Tap the home button and swipe over to twice to get to your volume control. If there's an AirPlay device on your network, tap the icon that's there and select it.
It may not have the control built into the app, but at least you still have that feature. You can also set it up in any other music application and it will work with SpotOn as well.
The app design is very appealing -- with the GLARING exception of that hideous "logo" in the first picture. Developer--please ditch that terrible thing and get a logo that goes with the very nice design of the rest of the app.
