Unofficial "Look Up in 1Password" bookmarklet for iOS 5
1Password is one of my most-used iOS apps, since I need it to log in to any site which requires a password.
Since the introduction of 1Password on iOS, Agile has provided a bookmarklet which will open 1Password and then search for the current domain. That helps the fact that 1Password can't be fully integrated with Safari on iOS. Unfortunately the bookmarklet stopped working in iOS 5.
According to the company's blog, Agile has discontinued the bookmarklet and won't be updating it. They are working on "something better coming up for the future." They went on to add that they want to make 1Password's own integrated browser "more usable as "a Safari replacement, or rather partial replacement."
While I will reserve judgment until I see it, I have serious reservations about this plan. I have used iCab Mobile on the iPad for over a year. iCab is a superior browser to Safari, but it is still difficult to use instead of Safari because iOS doesn't allow you to change the default browser. It's hard to imagine that 1Password's integrated browser will be better than iCab.
Fortunately, two 1Password users, Kevin Yank and Brendan Averett, have created a new Look Up in 1Password bookmarklet which is compatible with iOS 5. You can either copy that link, or use this:
javascript:window.location='onepassword://'+window.location.href.substring(window.location.href.indexOf('//')+2
I have successfully tested it on iOS 5 and 1Password Pro (with both Safari and iCab).

I've added the bookmarklet with the closed parentheses at the end. I go to a site that requires an Apache login, the one with the pop-up username and password window. Now what? I can't access the bookmarklet while the login window is displayed. All I can do is close the window, click on the bookmarklet which simply takes me to 1password where I have to use their browser.
Not sure I get the benefit of this at all. It's just a shortcut to 1pw. What am I missing?
Here you go.
1. Copy the appropriate code on your PC and paste it into an email and send it to an account that you access on your iOS device.
2. Open the email and copy the code.
3. Go to Safari.
4. Go to some random page, doesn't matter what it is.
5. Add a Bookmark of the page (Rectangle with Arrow at bottom of Screen).
6. Rename the Bookmark to something that tells you what it is before saving it. (Like 1PassMarklet)
7. After saving it go to Bookmarks. (Looks like an Open Book at bottom of Screen.)
8. Click "Edit".
9. Click on the new link you created (will be near bottom).
10. Remove original Link and Paste in Code you copied.
11. Click "Done".
12. Move Bookmark to top of list for convenience.
HTH!
Don't forget to modify the original by adding the close parenthesis at the end.

Thanks!
I'm not clear on what one is supposed to do with this javascript. It doesn't do anything, as doesn't the link to the two 1Password users.

They seem a bit deluded about what's at issue here. Like many others, I'm uninterested in this approach, and I stopped looking at 1passwrod at that point.
The idea that these guys have washed their hands of bookmarklet development shows how out of touch they are.
how do you get it to work have copied the link now what

I have tried 1Password several times but where were issues with the installation process and their tech support was some of the worst I've ever encountered. They kept blaming Apple for all their issues. Well, if it doesn't work like it should, they shouldn't release the app. And they most definitely should not take it out on their customers. I couldn't get any help from them just the same rhetoric, etc. It sure left a bad taste in my mouth for ever buying another of their products. I have absolutely no faith they can produce a Safari replacement that works well and even if they did, I'd feel sorry for any customers contacting their tech support. It was truly awful

Our customer support wasn't at it best when we were solving issues related to new versions of Safari, Lion and App Store. I sincerely believe that we improved quite a bit in the past couple of months. There are still ways to get better and I appreciate your feedback.

One of the reasons I didn't go with a password manager over other password strategies with something like this. I would not want to use the built in browser (I use Atomic Web), but the bookmarklet would have been good...until something breaks and is no longer supported. Luckily (this time), someone found a fix...again, for now
