MacBook Air Bluetooth EFI Update 1.0

Today, Apple updated the MacBook Air with the Bluetooth EFI update 1.0. Apple has yet to tell in any support notes what this update actually does.

However, for those souls that are willing to download and install the latest (un-noted) updates, you can find this update in your MacBook Air's Software Update app (Apple Menu > Software Update). You can also download the 1.2MB update from the Apple support downloads website.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

[Update:] Since posting this story, Apple has updated the link information and has taken off the "EFI" on the title of this update. You can find the update information here.

Transmission shifts into 1st gear

Transmission, long available in beta form, is one of my favorite torrent clients. BitTorrent, as you probably know, is a way to transfer or share files over the internet, for free, using a 'swarm' model to speed files along. Transmission makes the downloading of those files quite stunning, with its simplicity and ease of use. Transmission's beautiful user interface goes nicely with Leopard, as it has been redesigned; not to mention, it's 100% Leopard compatible. Some of the new updates in version 1.0 include:
  • Group labeling, filtering, and sorting
  • Leopard: Time Machine will ignore incomplete downloads
  • Display remaining time for seeding transfers
  • Ability to set global and per-torrent number of connections
Overall, this looks like a very nice release. It is available right now, for free, from the Transmission website.

Big News: Adium Hits the Big 1.0

After 4 years of hard work by almost 30 volunteers, instant messaging application Adium has finally reached version 1.0. The most significant update to the program in over a year and a half, the update brings with it a slew of new features, bug fixes, and added functionality. I've been using the 1.0 since it hit beta on July 4th of last year, and it is truly a treat to interact with. As for the new features, here's the shortlist:
  • Working Direct Connect and file transfer.
  • Global user profile and buddy icon.
  • Xtras manager.
  • Completely overhauled interface and icons.
  • Redesigned log viewer.
  • Major privacy enhancements.
  • Full changelog here.
Adium is open-source and available as a free download.

Camino turns 1.0

Camino, the wonderful Mac OS X-ified Mozilla browser that could (and does), has turned 1.0. A number of features have been added in this official 1.0 release, including a new tab bar appearance, the ability to pause/resume downloads, form fill from Address Book, History searching and more. Check out their release notes for the full deets.

This is a great milestone for a fantastic and zippy browser. If you don't need all the extensions, bells and other whistles of Firefox, I highly recommend Camino as a Mozilla browser that offers more of a Mac OS X experience.

Tip of the Day

Use Spotlight as a reference tool. Type any word in the Spotlight box and one of the top entries will be a definition. Click on it, and it will bring up the dictionary application to check the word in either the dictionary, thesaurus, Apple database, or Wikipedia.
