Macenstein tracks down switcher Ellen Feiss

Remember Ellen Feiss? She because famous in 2002 at the tender age of 14 for her Apple Switcher commercial, in which she talked about how her dad's computer had devoured her homework. Bummer, that. A controversy arose about whether or not Feiss was a stoner, and whether she was under the influence of Benadryl (or something perhaps less legal) at the time of the filming. It's five years later now, and Macenstein tracked her down and interviewed her.

Now 19, the famous "switcher girl" has finished high school, and has appeared in an independent foreign film. She talks about sudden fame, starting college, and about whether she was high during the ad (she says she was not--but that she has used marijuana under other circumstances). It's a quick interview, but one that you'll probably enjoy reading. I did.

Thanks Mike

AppleGazette lists top 10 Apple commercials

There's nothing that warms the cockles of a blogger's heart than a good list of things. This time around AppleGazette has compiled a list of the 10 ten Apple commercials of all time. The usual suspects are there, HAL, Ellen Feiss, and Think Different. Oddly enough 1984, possibly the most famous commercial ever, didn't nab the top slot.

Oh, and the image accompanying this post is from the worst Apple ad ever. Sound off in the comments if you know which ad it is.

Ellen Feiss to star in movie

Remember Ellen Feiss? I know, of course you do. If you've been missing the sweatshirt-clad switcher, here's some good news for you. She'll be starring in a short film called "Bed and Breakfast." It's a French film, but the corresponding website contains both French and English.

It seems like only yesterday Ellen was making that weird beeping noise on TV. Now she's starring in a move. They grow up so fast (sniff).

Ellen Feiss makes CNET's list of Top 10 Web Fads

ellen feiss appleEllen Feiss, best only known as the breakout star of Apple's 2002 "Switch" campaign, has made the Editor's list of the Top 10 Web fads to date.

CNET says: "It's possible that Apple's 'switcher' campaign would have become a cult hit (or at least, a target of parody) all on its own. But we like to think that Ellen Feiss pretty much made the whole thing. In a short-lived commercial (Apple yanked it after too much attention and speculation), 15-year-old Feiss told a sad tale of stoner-sounding woe about a PC eating her paper and having to rewrite it. 'It was kind of,' she declared in red-eyed dismay, 'a bummer.' Oh, how we laughed. Oh, how we still do. "

Ellen comes in at number 7, just 3 slots ahead of (or is it behind?) the Dancing Baby (#4). The coveted # 1 spot is occupied by everyone's favorite rodent: Hamsterdance.

Be afraid, folks. Be very very afraid.
