The Apple /// Resource

Are you a vintage Apple hardware nerd? I am. If so, you've probably got a basement full of beige boxes in various states of repair. I call mine "The Mac Museum." My wife calls it "Bring one more ancient computer into this house and you'll be living in the tool shed." Ah, marriage.

While my collection is limited to Macs, several of you have got some Apples lying around. Apple /// buffs will want to check out The Apple /// Resource. There you'll find just about everything you'll want for the ///, including software, manuals, even emulators (including Apple /// rom).

It's like Christmas morning for geeks like us! Dig around, see what you find and have some fun with your vintage Apple.

Found Footage: Lisa ad staring Kevin Costner

In 1983, a sweaty businessman rode his bike to the office in the early morning. After ditching the bike and climbing the stairs, he clicked his computer's mouse, gazed contemplatively at the screen and answered an unexpected phone call with a smile. "Yeah," he said. "I'll be home for breakfast."

The actor was Kevin Costner (hey, he's a lefty!). The computer was an Apple Lisa and the message was simple: Buy a computer, and you'll become so obsessed with it that you'll arrive at work hours before everyone else and even your spouse will question your interest in the most mundane aspects of domestic life.

Ah, the information age. How lucky we are.

Tune your run, old school

The Apple Blog points out that, with all the hubbub surrounding the Apple/Nike deal, we ought to remember that the Air Zoom Moire isn't technically the first time Apple has become involved in footwear. Many moons ago, some Apple employees could be seen sporting these babies. Oh, yeah. For some reason, those sneakers make me want to drive that DeLorean and rent Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Rig of the Day: The trio

Now here's something you don't see every day. One computer used as a stand for another. Flickr user epatel sent us this shot of a Mac Plus and an external, 20 MB SCSI disk sitting comfortably on top of an Apple // Plus . At least the Apple is still in use.
