Clips is a clipboard that works like an app, complete with previews, easy access via hot corners, support for Spaces and even clips across different Macs. Mike mentioned the 1.1 update last month, and now we're giving away five copies of the app (which currently sells for $34.99). To enter, simply leave a comment in this post before Wednesday night (details below).

Clips updated to 1.1

Clips is a relatively new application (designed by our friend Nicholas Penree and his cohorts at Conceited Software, who also sell Linkinus) designed to kick your clipboard into overdrive -- it'll let you keep track of any and all clips even across applications, Spaces, and even different Macs. The screencast gives a pretty good idea of just how capable it is, and while it seems just a tad bit too complicated for a user like me (I mostly just stick to the browser, and Quicksilver's shelf gives me pretty good access to all the reusable bits I need), it definitely seems like the kind of program that finds its way into your workflow: the more you use it, the more uses you'll find for it.

Plus, they've just released Clips 1.1, with a bevy of new features -- Abbreviations are now live (they'll expand as you type them, like Text Expander), you can use hot corners to invoke the program, video URLs are now supported (along with Amazon and IMDb URLs), and you can rename clips through a contextual menu (that last one might sound boring, but have you tried it yet?). The application is $34.99 (though hurry to get that price -- it may go up on October 1st), and there's a 15-day free trial.

New Leopard Build Introduces New Feature, Tweaks

The latest build of Leopard, (9A303) introduced some small but nifty features to the list of enhancements that will ship with the new OS next year. Lets take a look:

  • QuickLook is a new feature which allows users to view a full size preview of any image by right clicking on it, without having to open up the full Preview application.
  • The workflow for creating Dashboard Web Clips has changed. Instead of having to first open Dashboard, users can now create Web Clips directly within Safari.
  • When connecting a new external storage device, Leopard will ask you if would like to use the drive as a Time Machine backup drive.
  • The Spaces switching dialog is now a glossy black.

Small news, but news none the less, and we'll take anything we can get until we see some new announcements from Mr. Jobs himself.

Tip of the Day

Holding the Command key (aka the Apple key) and pressing Tab will cycle through your open applications. It's easier to Cmd-Tab if you are Copy (Cmd-C) and Pasting (Cmd-V) to and from various applications.
