Apple releases HP Printer Driver update 1.1

Apple just released an update for HP Printer support in Mac OS X. The update weighs in at a whopping 405.1 MBs and includes "latest drivers for printers you have used on your system."

In order to download the update via Software Update (Apple menu > Software Update), you must have the affected printer connected to your computer, or have a print queue already setup. You can also download the installer package from the Apple Support downloads site. This software works on Macs running OS X 10.5.3 or higher.

Thanks, Ed!

Mac-compatible USB MIssile Launcher at Last

Continuing the spirit of Erica's crazy USB peripheral posts from last week, now comes news that one of the most tragic of Mac deprivations is finally at an end. I speak, of course, of the lack of Mac drivers for the USB Missile Launchers released back in 2005, and available from ThinkGeek.com. Refusing to stand for the gross injustice of the Windows-only software, David Wilson has hacked his USB Missile Launcher driver for OS X. His driver seems to work both for the original USB Missile Launcher and a similar USB Rocket Launcher.

David's USB Missile Launcher Software is Open Source and a free download, though of course you'll need the launchers which run about $40 and are sadly out of stock at the moment at ThinkGeek. Nonetheless, the day has finally dawned for Mac cubicle warriors to compete with their Windows counterparts on an even playing field. A big TUAW 'attaboy for David!

Mac OS drivers appear in Dell download list

Somehow, some way, Mac OS drivers have appeared as a download option for a Dell Latitude X1. How many times do we have to tell you Michael Dell: You can't sell Mac OS X, no matter how often or how badly you wish to sell an operating system that's made for this century. Besides, trying to sneak it onto your site is just bad form.

If you want to see this interesting quirk for yourself, check it out at Dell's Driver and Downloads site. As of this writing, you can snag your own 'Mac OS' drivers for a Latitude X1.

This most likely is nothing more than a quirk of Dell's site, as we (thankfully) haven't heard of Jobs changing his mind or seen reports of the sky falling. You can go on about your business.

Tip of the Day

Holding the Command key (aka the Apple key) and pressing Tab will cycle through your open applications. It's easier to Cmd-Tab if you are Copy (Cmd-C) and Pasting (Cmd-V) to and from various applications.
